Arguably the biggest shock of the 2024 NBA Draft was Duke’s Kyle Filipowski sliding down to the second round. One of the reported reasons for that was surprisingly his girlfriend Caitlin Hutchison, who is much older than him. Hutchison has had the spotlight on her ever since that report came out, so let’s have a look at who exactly she is.
Caitlin was reportedly born on Sept. 17, 1997, to Kevin and Amanda Hutchison. Not much is known about her formative years, but in 2015, she started attending the University of Alabama.
In 2018, Hutchison graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education, Kinesiology, and Exercise Science; Health Promotion. While attending the university, she took up a Sales job at Northridge Fitness in Northport, Alabama in 2017.
A few months after graduating, Hutchison became a Patient Care Coordinator at Alabama Hearing Associates. She then headed over to Phoenix, Arizona to become an Office Manager at Black Diamond Networks before returning to Alabama Hearing Associates.
Hutchison later took the big step of pursuing an MBA from LSU Shreveport in 2021 and graduated the following year. Afterward, she started working as an executive assistant at Intelerand Medical Systems in May 2022 and currently resides in Durham, North Carolina.
All of that sounds perfectly normal, but Hutchison’s relationship with 20-year-old Filipowski has been deemed rather problematic. Their relationship allegedly started when the big man, who was born on Nov. 7, 2003, was still in high school.
Hutchison is said to have attended Filipowski’s high school prom after completing her MBA, which raised eyebrows. What then caused even more concern was the claims made by two accounts on X that claimed to be of his brother and mother.
Filipowski’s family claimed that he was brainwashed by his 26-year-old girlfriend and ‘Mormon culture.’ Those were some serious allegations and it will be interesting to see if the big man responds to them at some point.
Filipowski would end up being drafted by the Utah Jazz with the 32nd pick, which only further raised eyebrows thanks to the Mormon brainwashing allegation. Jazz Vice President of Basketball Strategy Steven Schwartz was asked about the rumors swirling around regarding the rookie and stated they were comfortable with everything.
“We do deep background on all the draft prospects … We’re more than happy to have Kyle join the Jazz and we’re comfortable with everything going on. Really we’re excited about who he is as a person, so we’re not concerned about that at all.”
From the outside, this does look like a very concerning situation, but we have only heard one side of the story so far. I just hope the complete truth comes to light at some point.
