The 2024 NBA Draft is underway and the Washington Wizards have ensured they get their dream prospect at the No. 2 spot. French center Alexandre Sarr was drafted by the Wizards at No. 2, with Sarr reportedly trying his best to make sure he’d be available to the Wizards at No. 2.

Sarr was considered the projected No. 1 pick heading into the Draft, but he categorically refused to work out for the Atalanta Hawks repeatedly. The Hawks went with Zaccharie Risacher, making sure the Wizards got their guy.
Given the threadbare nature of the Wizards core, compounded by their trade to send Deni Avdija to Portland, Sarr is going into a franchise where he’ll have the opportunity to develop his game. If he went to the Hawks, he’d likely be expected to play a specific type of basketball to enhance Dejounte Murray or Trae Young’s production.
Sarr played for the Perth Wildcats in the NBL last season, averaging 9.4 points, 0.9 assists, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game in 27 appearances. He averaged 17.3 minutes per game in the NBL, with games being 40 minutes long (10-minute quarters).
