Dwight Howard is taking the next step in his basketball career, now becoming a part-owner of the Taiwan Mustangs. Howard announced on Instagram that he will be a part-owner and player with the Mustangs, and a part-owner of the league they will be part of. Howard also promised to continue recruiting NBA players to play with him in Taiwan.

“I am so blessed to now be able to say I am a part owner of a professional basketball league playing in [The Asian Tournament]. So [Where is Dwight Howard] going next? I will be playing for the [Taiwan Mustangs] in Taiwan as an owner/player! Not just the owner of a team but of a LEAGUE & yes Taiwan on this date last year I left Taiwan in tears and now I am FINALLY coming back!”

This announcement also revealed that he and the Mustangs would be participating in the Asian Tournament, a continental tournament that features teams from several different countries across Asia, which Howard will now be a part-owner of. This is the beginning of Howard’s career as a basketball team owner.

“Only this time we are doing it even BIGGER I am extremely blessed to have the ability to spread love, positivity, & make people smile all around the world! Being an owner of a league & using my influence to make the world happier through the universal language of the smile is something I dreamed of…”

“Also guess what? Now that I’m an owner of a league it’s time to get back to recruiting & it’s NBA playoffs! We gotta bring some other NBA players on the World Smile Tour so comment your flag, tag the player you want me to recruit to my league, and tell them ‘C’MON’.”

It will be interesting to see if Howard uses this move in his career to eventually try and become part of an ownership group in the NBA. He could follow in Michael Jordan’s footsteps and become an NBA player to then become an owner in the league.

Dwight Howard Is Near The End Of His Playing Career

Dwight Howard went to Taiwan after his last few seasons in the NBA saw his performances decline, and interest in him among teams go down drastically. He last played in the NBA for the Los Angeles Lakers in 2021-22, and that season was a disaster, as the Lakers missed the playoffs.

Howard is unquestionably one of the most underrated players in NBA history. The legendary center played in the NBA for 18 seasons and found a lot of success. Dwight’s career numbers are solid, with him averaging 15.7 points, 11.8 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.9 steals, and 1.8 blocks per game.

He was one of the best players in the NBA during his peak and won several accolades, including an NBA championship, three Defensive Player of the Year awards, and being named an All-Star eight times in his career.

This move marks Howard’s return to Taiwan after he played for the Taiwan Beer Leopards from 2022 to 2023. Howard was dominant in the league, winning MVP, and being named to the All-Star, All-Defensive, and All-T1 League First Team. During his one season in Taiwan, he averaged 23.2 points, 16.2 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game.

Perhaps Howard can find similar success in Taiwan when he returns. But at this stage of his career, now nearing the age of 40, no one will hold it against him if just plays basketball for his own enjoyment.
