Jaylen Brown was surprised after he was named the 2024 Eastern Conference Finals MVP for his performances in the Boston Celtics’ four-game sweep over the Indiana Pacers.
“I wasn’t expecting it at all. I never win sh*t. I was just happy we won. Give credit to Indiana, they played tough. I know people think Indiana isn’t a good team but they were tougher than anybody we played this season. They were physical, they played fast, they put a lot of pressure on us. Shout out to them and respect to them.”

The Celtics closed the Pacers out in Game 4 with a 105-102 win, their third win where they entered the last five minutes trailing in the contest. Brown led them in scoring for the final game, putting up 29 points to cap off an excellent four-game display.
Brown won the honor in a close vote, pipping Jayson Tatum 5-4 to the Larry Bird trophy.

Brown averaged 29.8 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 3.0 assists over the four games of this series, providing consistent two-way play along with a sea of important moments that swung this series in Boston’s favor.
Tatum had a great series as well, leading the Celtics in scoring with his 30.3 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 6.3 assists per game average.
Brown was more dependable and efficient, with few complaining that Tatum deserved it over him given how closely matched they are.
Jaylen Brown Knows He’s One Of The Best Players In The NBA
Jaylen Brown might not have expected to win the Conference Finals MVP trophy, but he’s always been secure about who he is among the pantheon of players in the NBA right now.
“I’m one of the best two-way wings, guards in this game.”
Brown had expressed his dismay about not making an All-NBA team this season, prompting fans to mock him for receiving the largest contract in NBA history over the last offseason and not even ranking as a top-15 player in the All-NBA voting.
”I watch guys get praised and anointed, I feel like, (that) are as half as talented as me on either side of the ball. But at this point in my life, I just embrace it. It comes with being who I am and what I stand for, and I ain’t really changing that. I just come out, and I’m grateful to step out on the court each and every night and put my best foot forward. I get better every single year and whether people appreciate it or not it is what it is.”
Brown was upset about on not making All-Defense either, so this is a series of snubs that he has overcome to win Conference Finals MVP. He will be a legitimate contender to win NBA Finals MVP if the Celtics can close out the Dallas Mavericks, who have a 3-0 lead in the Western Conference Finals over the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Jaylen Brown has been excellent for the duration of the Celtics’ postseason run, averaging 25.0 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 2.6 assists as the team went 12-2 over the Eastern Conference.
