As the Milwaukee Bucks walked off the court for the final time this season, veteran guard Patrick Beverley decided to make a final statement before leaving in disgrace. Initially, it was unknown what set Beverley off besides frustration with the final score, but it has since been revealed that the words from a fan sparked Beverley’s reaction, which went viral online.

“Sources: The exchange between Patrick Beverley and one of the fans in Indianapolis escalated when the Bucks were breaking huddle Thursday night, and the fan yelled, “Cancún… Cancún on 3.” NBA is looking into Beverley’s exchange with fans in game and media postgame,” wrote The Athletic’s Shams Charania.

The Bucks fought hard to keep their season alive on Thursday in an elimination game away from home against the 6th-seeded Pacers. In the end, the final score wasn’t even close (120-98), and the Bucks walked off in total humiliation. Beverley’s outburst after the buzzer only made things worse for his team, who have been subjected to scrutiny from all across the NBA community.

Beverley hit the fan twice, clearly with intent, and it was all over a basic taunt that countless players have heard before. In response to his egregious reaction, some kind of punishment is expected, which will either be a fine or even a suspension since this is not his first occasion. Even so, it’s still a terrible look for the team overall and the fact that Beverley lost his cool over such a harmless comment shows how frustrating the situation has become for the Bucks.

Unfortunately for Beverley, however, his troubles didn’t end there. After the game, in a chat with the media, he continued his detestable behavior by shutting out reporters who weren’t subscribed to his podcast.

But for the Bucks, their only concern is getting back on track and rebuilding this team to rise from the ashes next season. With Beverley or without, Milwaukee will press on and they have big ambitions for the future.

The Milwaukee Bucks Are The NBA’s Biggest Disappointment For Two Seasons In A Row

After their shocking first-round elimination to the Miami Heat last season, the Bucks opted for immediate change and they didn’t waste any time with firing Mike Budenholzer to bring in Adrian Griffin, Giannis’ preferred choice at the time. They also traded for Damian Lillard in a bold move to increase their title odds.

They traded for Lillard last summer, thinking that his superstar shooting would create a perfect balance with Giannis Antetokounmpo. While Dame did show flashes of his superstar self, he was never able to turn it on consistently for the Bucks, and he finished the season with averages of 24.3 points, 7.0 assists, and 4.4 rebounds, per game on just 42.4% shooting.

As a team, the Bucks suffered greatly from the loss of Jrue Holiday, and it was felt in the backcourt, where they saw a major decline on the defensive end. So when it came time to redeem their defeat from 2023, the Bucks had no chance to succeed given their flaws and the absence of Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Now, after such a bitter end, the Bucks are expected to re-think their roster and Beverley could be one of the first ones to go.
