Nate Robinson Calls Out His Former Coach Doc Rivers

Bucks coach Doc Rivers didn’t ask for a head coaching job with the Bucks, but it didn’t stop him from accepting the role after it was offered to him this season. And now, according to one of his former players, Nate Robinson, the best Rivers could do is hope that he will not mess up whatever team he’s coaching.

“I don’t know what Doc is gonna do now that Doc is there,” said Nate Robinson. “It seems like mess up every place he goes.”

Robinson went on to reveal his “beef” with Doc Rivers, which goes back to when Robinson was still in the NBA. As Nate tells it, Doc cost him a massive chunk of his salary after giving him a DNP in the final game of the season.

“I had it in my contract where I made like $2 million, like $1.5 or something like that if I played a certain amount of games,” said Robinson. “Doc Rivers gives me a DNP in the game where I needed one more game to get $1.5 million. The real one in me just wanted to say f*ck it and just sub… I didn’t even ask, but I know he did that sh*t on purpose.”

Doc Rivers isn’t known for costing players their salary like that for no reason but it seems Nate is convinced that Doc intentionally cost him the opportunity to make an extra $1.5 million on his contract. To this day, Robinson holds a grudge against his former coach, and it doesn’t seem like they’ll be burying the hatchet anytime soon.

And while Rivers is still in the league today, things haven’t been going so hot in his latest stint with the Bucks and the the team is still looking for answers amid a wildly disappointing season. On his fifth head coaching gig now, this may be the last chance for Doc in the NBA and everything is on the line this season for him and the new-look Bucks.

Did The Milwaukee Bucks Make A Mistake?

The Bucks wasted no time to hire Doc as the mid-season replacement for Adrian Griffin. Without conducting any interviews or considering any other candidates, they brought in Rivers to take full control of the locker room of a team that’s already won the title before.

Almost from the start, there were doubts about the Doc hire. Leading up to his latest job, he led the charge on various playoff collapses and had to sit and watch as his teams got bounced year after year.

With the Bucks, the thinking was that, with the combined power of Damian Lillard and Giannis Antetokounmpo, they’d be good enough to avoid a similar fate. But in just Doc’s first few months as coach, the signs are pointing toward the opposite.

Besides taking a big dip offensively, the Bucks have lost some concerning games including a stretch earlier this month where they lost three straight against the Wizards, Grizzlies, and Raptors.

Under Rivers, the Bucks haven’t looked much better than at their worst point with Griffin, and there’s further evidence that there’s something deeper at work here holding them back. Whatever it is, if the Bucks don’t sort it out soon, it could cause some major fallout this offseason.
