A very special Luka Doncic fan attended Sunday’s game between the Dallas Mavericks and the Houston Rockets, his mother Mirjam Poterbin. Poterbin took to Instagram to share a picture of her at the Toyota Center before tip-off.
Poterbin would have been thrilled by what she saw on the court from her son later that night. Doncic recorded 47 points, 12 rebounds, 7 assists, and 2 steals to lead the Mavericks to a 125-107 win over the Rockets. It was the seventh win in a row for the Mavs, who are catching fire at the best possible time.
Everything seems to be going great for Doncic on the court and it appears all is fine now off it, too, based on Poterbin attending his games. She has actually shown up for a fair few of them over the past couple of months.
It was just a couple of years ago, that Doncic had sued his mother, as he attempted to take control of his brand. When he was a teenager, he had given Poterbin consent for the registration of his full name as a trademark. Later, the Mavericks star tried to negotiate a transfer of control for that registration numerous times and when his attempts failed, Doncic provided written notice that he wished to revoke that consent.
Things could have gone horribly wrong from that point on, but that wasn’t the case. Doncic and Poterbin reportedly ended their legal battle over his trademark rights in December 2022. The fact that she is now attending these games every now and then makes you believe that any and all issues are now a thing of the past, which would be great.
Luka saw his parents, Poterbin and Sasa Doncic, get divorced when he was just nine years old. His custody and legal guardianship went to his mother and she has been by his side at nearly every step of his life. Poterbin was a model and had a beauty salon business but as her son started shining on the court, she began investing more of her time into his career and the results have certainly been great.
