Kyrie Irving capped off the best Mavericks win of the season by beating the Denver Nuggets with a two-point hook shot with his left hand over Nikola Jokic. The contest ended 107-105 in Dallas’ favor, with Kyrie opening up on the moment after the game.

“It felt good to execute and have the trust in my teammates out there. Being lucky enough and fortunate enough to hit a left-handed floater outside the free-throw line. I thought I got closer in the paint but I looked at it after the game and I was pretty far out. Shout out to the work, being ambidextrous, and trusting the skills I work on.”

Irving’s buzzer-beater will ultimately be one of the best highlights in his extremely sizeable career-highlight compilation. It was one of the most ridiculous shots we’ve seen a guard make in years, as Irving not only finished over a seven-footer like Jokic contesting but also with distance from the basket on the play, given it was a hook shot.

Irving ended the game with 24 points, seven rebounds, and nine assists. While Luka Doncic dropped 37 points and helped the Mavs control this game, it was Kyrie’s fourth-quarter contribution alongside Doncic that made this win possible. It was much-needed for the Mavericks, who are now in a three-way tie with the Kings and Suns for the No. 6 seed in the West.

The Nuggets had six players score double-digit points, but no single star could stand up to the offensive wizardry on display from Luka and Kyrie.

Kyrie Irving Is Playing While Fasting For Ramadan

The auspicious month of Ramadan is upon us and many Muslim NBA players are doing their pious duty of observing a fast that restricts food or water consumption from sun-up to sundown. The Mavericks and Nuggets played in the afternoon, which means Kyrie didn’t have a chance to break his fast as can during late games.

Irving opened up on what it’s like playing through the fast after the game.

“Ramadan is a special month, so it’s a special time and just try not to think about the suffering too much and really focus on the journey with God and the path that you’re on and, and just stay focused on that and stay disciplined. It’s a difficult journey, and to be able to play 48 minutes and not have a drink or eat any food is nothing short of a miracle, so there’s definitely a universal God out there that’s protecting me, and I have to give credit to him.”

Even Luka Doncic reacted to it and made it clear that he couldn’t play while fasting like Kyrie.

“I wouldn’t be able to do it. I’m impressed. Like I said, he’s different. He’s different.”

Kyrie is averaging 25.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 5.3 assists this season. He’s been the perfect co-star next to Doncic for the Mavericks, as the team is looking like dark-horse contenders in the Western Conference.
