In an appearance on ‘The Draymond Green Show,” former NBA veteran Jamal Crawford detailed why Victor Wembanyama is his top choice to build a team around in 2024. While Nikola Jokic was Crawford’s short-term selection, he named Wemby as the guy he’d run with to lead his franchise for the next 10+ years.

“If it was three years then it’s the Joker [Nikola Jokic] or it’s like Embiid. But if it’s 507 years, it’s Victor Wembanyama for sure.”

Statistically, Wembanyama is on track for one of the greatest rookie seasons ever. With averages of 20.5 points, 10.0 rebounds, and 3.2 blocks per game, he’s already one of the best players in the league. But for Crawford, it’s not just about Wemby’s skills that make him so impressive. It’s his willingness to do all the little things that truly sets him apart from the rest.

“As talented as he is, he’s a little things dude,” said Crawford. “That’s his game-changer. So he’s better than the hype, but not because of the sh*t you can see but because of the sh*t you can’t see. Every single time he tries to sprint and block a shot, every single time he’s running, every single time he’s in the right areas for help…”

Wembanyama’s work ethic is refreshing to see for such a young player but it’s just part of what makes him so dangerous on the basketball court. With a deep hunger to win and a commitment to getting better every game, it’s no wonder why this guy has had no problem living up to the hype as the most touted NBA prospect since LeBron James.

Victor Wembanyama Is On The Fast Track To Stardom

On the court, the Spurs haven’t been very good this season and they sit dead last in the West thanks to a roster that is shockingly devoid of both experience and talent. Victor Wembanyama has done his best, but not even his dominant play has been enough to move the needle.

Until Victor and the Spurs can find some success and win more than 20 games in a season, they will never be taken seriously as a title threat and Wemby’s place at the top of the hierarchy will always be debatable. But behind Wembanyama’s dominant play on both ends, it might not take much for the Spurs to turn their situation around.

Already, multiple NBA stars have come out to show their support for Wembanyama, including names like Giannis Antetokounmpo, Joel Embiid, and Carmelo Anthony. LeBron James also gave a glowing review of the star big man, calling the French star a “special talent.”

Wemby barely missed the cut for All-Star weekend this year, landing 8th in the Westen Conference frontcourt but he’s sure to make it on the team in the years to come. The biggest concern for Victor now is getting some wins for the Spurs, who have struggled to find something that works. With just 11 wins all season, this is hardly the start that Wemby envisioned when he was preparing for his basketball career.  Nevertheless, he’ll have to pull his team out of this if he wants to achieve his dream of being the greatest.
