Fresh off a loss to the Brooklyn Nets on Friday, LeBron James set aside his weekend to watch his son, Bronny, play in his first season for the USC Trojans. In a short message on X James shared his experience for the day and detailed a touching moment he shared with his mom, Gloria, who was watching it all unfold from right beside him.
“Crazy man! My mom sitting right next to me just said ‘You know how amazing this is!? Sitting here with my son while watching my grandson on TV. I feel so present and blessed.’ Shit almost brought me to tears just now,” James wrote.
Bronny has been through a lot of ups and downs to get to this point but it’s all finally coming together this season as he looks to further his basketball career. As a starter now for the Trojans, Bronny is getting his chance in the spotlight and his family has been there every step of the way… like when LeBron was caught running after a Lakers game to watch the end of his son’s match.
Bronny On Track For Basketball Stardom?
No matter your feelings on LeBron or his place in NBA history, we can all agree that Bronny is in a unique position to succeed in the basketball world. As the son of, arguably, the greatest player ever, Bronny has the genes, support, and a lifetime of training to help maximize his athletic potential. Even so, the jury is still out on what he can be in the NBA. So far, James Jr. hasn’t shown that he can be a star at the highest level, and some scouts project he could be a mid-first-round pick or later in the upcoming draft.
This season, for USC, James is averaging 5.8 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game on 36.8% shooting. In his last game against the Arizona Wildcats, he scored a season-high 11 points and 6 assists in 30 minutes of play. By halftime of the game on Saturday, against Arizona State, Bronny had 7 points in his latest display of good shooting as a starter. Sadly, the Trojans haven’t been very good this season at just 8-10 but Bronny is starting to figure things out and he’s come a long way since suffering that cardiac arrest over the summer.
LeBron’s Ultimate Dream
LeBron has really made it a point to watch and support his son’s rising basketball career but his ambition goes beyond getting Bronny to the NBA. As LeBron himself has stated many times, his ultimate goal before he retires (besides winning another championship) is to play with Bronny as the NBA’s first-ever father-son duo. For now, it remains nothing more than a dream scenario but it’s not too far off from happening if Bronny can raise his draft stock.
At the end of this season, LeBron can become a free agent if he opts out of his deal and it will set him up to join with any team that may draft Bronny this summer or at any point in the future. At 39 years old, LeBron is in the final stages of his career now and he’s really only got a few more things left to do before walking away for good. Clearly, whatever he does next, family will be a big motivator for him just like it has since his career began.
