Scottie Pippen went 6-0 in the NBA Finals with the Chicago Bulls, but there is another big NBA event where he was unbeaten in his career, the Christmas Day games. HoopsHype recently released a list of the 14 All-Stars who never lost on Christmas during their NBA careers.
1. Scottie Pippen: 7-0
2. Jim Paxson: 7-0
3. Bob Davies: 7-0
4. Phil Chenier: 6-0
5. Chris Bosh: 5-0
6. BJ Armstrong: 5-0
7. Rasheed Wallace: 4-0
8. Juwan Howard: 4-0
9. Lionel Hollins: 4-0
10. Vince Boryla: 4-0
11. Moses Malone: 3-0
12. Adrian Dantley: 3-0
13. Bobby Jones: 3-0
14. Goran Dragic: 3-0
There are some very notable names in there like Chris Bosh, Rasheed Wallace, Juwan Howard, Moses Malone, Adrian Dantley, and Goran Dragic. Dragic is the most recent addition to the list, with his last win coming as a member of the Miami Heat in 2020, when they beat the New Orleans Pelicans 111-98.
For those wondering how Michael Jordan fared on Christmas, he actually went 5-1. That lone defeat came in his third season with the Bulls in 1986-87, when they lost 86-85 to the New York Knicks, thanks to a last-second putback from Patrick Ewing.
Jordan would have been a perfect 6-0 if not for that incredible shot from Ewing. He got some revenge on them in their 1992 Christmas Day clash, scoring 42 points to lead the Bulls to an 89-77 win. Jordan would end up with averages of 28.3 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 2.8 steals, and 1.3 blocks per game on Christmas.
As for LeBron James, his record on Christmas Day is actually quite underwhelming compared to Jordan. LeBron has appeared in a record 18 games on Christmas and has gone 10-8 in them. Interestingly, he was 7-1 at one point but has lost seven of his last 10 now.
That includes this latest defeat to the Boston Celtics. LeBron struggled in that game, with 16 points on 5-14 shooting from the field, but in general, he has played well on Christmas. In his 18 outings, he has averaged 26.4 points, 7.7 rebounds, 7.1 assists, 1.4 steals, and 0.7 blocks per game.
The all-time great who has perhaps struggled the most in Christmas Day games is Stephen Curry. He has a 4-6 record and has put up poor averages of 15.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, 6.4 assists, 1.6 steals, and 0.4 blocks per game.
In what is probably even more surprising, Curry has shot just 31.7% from the field and 23.1% from beyond the arc in those 10 games. It is quite puzzling how the greatest shooter we have ever seen just can’t seem to get it done on Christmas. His latest outing against the Denver Nuggets saw Curry put up just 18 points, 2 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal, and 1 block, as the Golden State Warriors lost 120-114.
