The Golden State Warriors are having to endure a difficult season as they sit below .500 and have some issues including Andrew Wiggins’ inconsistencies (12.3 PPG on 30.0% 3-PT FG) and Draymond Green’s poor behavior on the court. The Warriors need to make a trade to fortify the roster and maximize the undeniable dominance of Stephen Curry this season (28.2 PPG on 41.6% 3-PT FG). By utilizing Andrew Wiggins who was the second-best player during the 2022 championship run, the Warriors can engage in five different trades.

  • A Blockbuster Swap With DeMar DeRozan
  • Adding A Championship-Level Swingman
  • Improved Defense And Shooting With OG Anunoby

We have already seen how the Warriors can shock the NBA with a blockbuster trade for a perfect system player like Karl-Anthony Towns or even a completely shocking deal for swingman Jimmy Butler. Instead, the Warriors can look at five alternative deals involving Andrew Wiggins that net them role players or fringe-level All-Star players to boost their championship hopes this season.

A Trade That Adds Shooting And Size

The Golden State Warriors can always do with more shooting and size in the paint, and a trade with the Indiana Pacers allows them to hit two birds with one stone.

Trade Details

Golden State Warriors Receive: Buddy Hield, Obi Toppin

Indiana Pacers Receive: Andrew Wiggins

In this suggested trade scenario, the Golden State Warriors stand to benefit significantly by acquiring Buddy Hield and Obi Toppin from the Indiana Pacers in exchange for Andrew Wiggins. Wiggins, who has struggled with inconsistency, finds himself underperforming this season, prompting the Warriors to explore alternatives. Buddy Hield’s arrival promises to bolster the team’s three-point shooting, providing a valuable complement to the scoring duo of Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. Hield’s proficiency from beyond the arc (13.0 PPG on 38.1% 3-PT FG) aligns seamlessly with the Warriors’ offensive philosophy, enhancing their floor spacing and offensive versatility.

Simultaneously, the inclusion of Obi Toppin in the trade addresses the Warriors’ need for increased size and athleticism in the frontcourt. Toppin’s ability to run the floor, finish at the rim, and contribute energetically in the paint brings a dynamic element to the team’s lineup. His athleticism and versatility are well-suited to the Warriors’ fast-paced style of play, adding depth to their frontcourt rotation. Toppin is averaging 12.1 points per game on 60.9% from the field and 36.9% from three this season in only 24.0 minutes per game of action.

By parting ways with Andrew Wiggins, the Warriors not only address on-court needs but also gain financial flexibility. Wiggins’ substantial contract has been a point of contention, and this trade allows the Warriors to potentially alleviate some salary cap concerns, opening up possibilities for future roster adjustments.

A Fantastic Package From New Orleans

Sometimes, adding two players for one becomes an avenue for success and the Pelicans can provide shooting and defense with one trade.

Trade Details

Golden State Warriors Receive: Herbert Jones, Larry Nance Jr., 2024 First-Round Pick (NO)

New Orleans Pelicans Receive: Andrew Wiggins

This trade not only addresses the Warriors’ desire for more defensive prowess but also introduces an intriguing blend of youth, experience, and future assets. Herbert Jones, a promising young forward, could prove to be a defensive stalwart for the Warriors. Known for his tenacity on the defensive end, Jones possesses the versatility to guard multiple positions effectively.

His skills could seamlessly integrate into the Warriors’ defensive schemes, providing an added layer of solidity to a team already anchored by defensive-minded players like Draymond Green. Moreover, Jones’ offensive game has shown promise, making him a well-rounded addition to the roster as he is averaging 11.2 points per game on 47.7% from the field.

Larry Nance Jr., a seasoned forward/center, brings valuable experience and versatility to the Warriors’ frontcourt. Nance’s defensive acumen, shot-blocking ability, and proficiency in rebounding could significantly bolster the team’s interior presence. His skill set aligns with the Warriors’ emphasis on positionless basketball, allowing him to contribute effectively both defensively and on the boards.

Nance’s experience in the league adds a veteran presence to the roster, which could be particularly valuable during high-stakes playoff moments even if his numbers this season look pedestrian (3.5 PPG and 4.1 RPG on 50.0% from the field).

The inclusion of a 2024 first-round pick from the Pelicans further sweetens the deal for the Warriors. First-round picks serve as valuable assets for roster development and future trades. The 2024 draft class is anticipated to be strong, providing the Warriors with an additional opportunity to secure a young, impact player or use the pick as a trade chip in future negotiations.

A Blockbuster Swap With DeMar DeRozan

One of the best deals on the market involves giving the rebuilding Chicago Bulls a younger swingman in a straight swap for DeMar DeRozan.

Trade Details

Golden State Warriors Receive: DeMar DeRozan

Chicago Bulls Receive: Andrew Wiggins

A blockbuster swap not only adds a proven scorer and playmaker to the Warriors’ roster but also aligns with their win-now mentality as they seek to maximize their championship window. DeMar DeRozan, a four-time NBA All-Star, brings a wealth of experience and offensive firepower to the Warriors. Known for his scoring ability, mid-range game, and playmaking skills, DeRozan would provide a versatile scoring option alongside Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.

His ability to create his own shot and excel in isolation situations could diversify the Warriors’ offensive repertoire, adding a valuable dimension to their championship aspirations. This season, despite the uncertainty around the Chicago Bulls, DeRozan is averaging 22.4 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per game on 45.1% from the field, 35.7% from three, and 82.3% from the free-throw line.

While Andrew Wiggins has shown flashes of talent, the opportunity to acquire a proven star like DeRozan represents a strategic move for the Warriors. DeRozan’s experience in high-pressure situations and playoff basketball could be instrumental in fortifying the team’s postseason success. Additionally, his leadership on and off the court could positively influence the Warriors’ younger players.

For the Chicago Bulls, receiving Andrew Wiggins in return provides a younger and athletic swingman who can contribute both offensively and defensively. This trade aligns with the Bulls’ rebuilding efforts, allowing them to add a player with untapped potential and financial flexibility for future roster moves.

By acquiring a seasoned star in DeRozan, the Warriors aim to enhance their immediate championship prospects, while the Chicago Bulls benefit from the infusion of youth and talent as they continue their rebuilding process. This potential swap could reshape both teams and add significant intrigue to the NBA landscape.

Adding A Championship-Level Swingman

Jerami Grant is a win-now type of player and he fits into the Warriors system since he can shoot, run on the break, and defend four positions at a high level.

Trade Details

Golden State Warriors Receive: Jerami Grant

Portland Trail Blazers Receive: Andrew Wiggins, 2027 First-Round Pick (GS)

Jerami Grant, known for his two-way prowess, presents a compelling addition to the Warriors’ roster. His ability to shoot from outside, run the floor with agility, and defend multiple positions at an elite level makes him a valuable asset. Grant’s skill set not only complements the scoring duo of Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson but also integrates seamlessly into the Warriors’ fast-paced, ball-moving style of play. His defensive versatility would further enhance the Warriors’ ability to switch on screens and disrupt opponents’ offensive schemes.

In exchange, the Portland Trail Blazers receive Andrew Wiggins, a dynamic swingman with a combination of scoring and defensive capabilities. The inclusion of a 2027 first-round pick adds an extra layer of value for the Trail Blazers, providing them with a future asset as they navigate potential roster adjustments or build for the long term.

For the Warriors, the acquisition of Jerami Grant represents a win-now move. Grant’s experience in deep playoff runs and his proven ability to perform under pressure align with the Warriors’ championship aspirations. Additionally, Grant’s capacity to contribute on both ends of the floor adds a new dimension to the Warriors’ lineup, making them even more formidable in a competitive Western Conference. Grant is posting 22.7 points, 3.9 rebounds, 0.8 steals, and 0.9 blocks per game on 45.7% from the field and 41.2% from three.

The Warriors stand to gain a championship-caliber swingman, while the Trail Blazers receive a dynamic player and a future draft pick. Grant is one of the players who would fit seamlessly into the Warriors system without any delay because he is a forward who will understand Steve Kerr’s philosophies.

Improved Defense And Shooting With OG Anunoby

The perfect trade for the Warriors might be acquiring OG Anunoby, a perfect Warriors player, while also shoring up the frontcourt with an active big man.

Trade Details

Golden State Warriors Receive: OG Anunoby, Precious Achiuwa

Toronto Raptors Receive: Andrew Wiggins

In a trade scenario that could significantly bolster the Golden State Warriors’ roster, the acquisition of OG Anunoby and Precious Achiuwa from the Toronto Raptors in exchange for Andrew Wiggins presents a compelling opportunity. This move not only addresses the Warriors’ need for improved defense and shooting but also enhances their frontcourt with the addition of an active and promising big man.

OG Anunoby, renowned for his defensive prowess and three-point shooting, emerges as an ideal fit for the Warriors’ system. Anunoby’s ability to guard four positions at an elite level aligns seamlessly with the Warriors’ defensive philosophy, offering versatility on the perimeter. Moreover, his reliable three-point shooting contributes to the Warriors’ emphasis on floor spacing, providing additional scoring options alongside the likes of Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. Anunoby led the NBA in steals last season and is posting 14.7 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.0 steals per game on 37.2% from the three-point line.

The inclusion of Precious Achiuwa adds depth to the Warriors’ frontcourt. Achiuwa, an athletic and active big man, brings energy and shot-blocking ability to the paint, addressing a need for rim protection. The Nigerian is posting 8.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game for the Toronto Raptors this season and his mobility and rebounding prowess could complement the Warriors’ fast-paced style of play, particularly in transition situations. Achiuwa’s potential for growth makes him a valuable asset for the Warriors’ long-term plans.

Overall, the proposed trade involving OG Anunoby and Precious Achiuwa provides the Warriors with a well-rounded package. Anunoby’s defensive excellence and three-point shooting, combined with Achiuwa’s athleticism in the frontcourt, address key areas of improvement for the Warriors. While the star power of DeRozan and Grant seems very interesting, the Warriors might be better off with Anunoby and Achiuwa considering the needs of the team right now.
