In the 2023-24 NBA season, Kevin Durant has a legitimate opportunity to etch his name even further in the annals of basketball history. Currently ranked 13th on the NBA All-Time Scoring list with 26,892 points, Durant is within striking distance of several NBA legends ahead of him.

With a 27 points-per-game average and playing approximately 75 games, Durant could accumulate 28,917 points by season’s end, surpassing the scoring totals of five iconic players and becoming the 8th on this legendary list.

13. Kevin Durant – 26,892

12. Hakeem Olajuwon – 26,946

11. Elvin Hayes – 27,313

10. Moses Malone – 27,409

9. Carmelo Anthony – 28,289

8. Shaquille O’Neal – 28,596

Among the legends he could overtake on the All-Time Scoring List are Hakeem Olajuwon, Elvin Hayes, Moses Malone, Carmelo Anthony, and Shaquille O’Neal. This accomplishment would underscore Durant’s remarkable scoring ability and cement his legacy as one of the most prolific scorers in NBA history.

Durant’s scoring prowess, fueled by his incredible shooting and versatility, has made him a perennial scoring champion and NBA superstar. As he continues to add to his point total, he solidifies his position in the pantheon of basketball greats. With each basket, Kevin Durant inches closer to becoming a true legend of the game, further securing his legacy in the NBA’s rich history.

Where Can Kevin Durant Finish On The All-Time Scoring List?

Kevin Durant, one of the most prolific scorers in NBA history, finds himself in a unique position as he embarks on the latter stages of his illustrious career. As of the 2023-24 season, Durant is wearing the purple and orange of the Phoenix Suns, a team loaded with scoring talent, including Devin Booker and Bradley Beal. This situation raises intriguing questions about where Durant might finish on the All-Time Scoring List, given these circumstances.

First and foremost, Durant is undoubtedly a future Hall of Famer and an offensive juggernaut. Throughout his career, he has consistently demonstrated an incredible scoring ability with his combination of size, speed, and an unmatched shooting touch. Yet, his current role with the Suns sees him sharing the scoring load with other high-caliber players. This means that Durant may not be the primary scorer on the team, as he once was with the Oklahoma City Thunder and Golden State Warriors. Consequently, this could affect his ability to accumulate points at the same rate as he did during his prime years.

Durant’s age is another crucial factor in determining where he might finish on the All-Time Scoring List. At 35 years old, he’s approaching the latter part of his career, and injuries could become a significant concern. Just three seasons ago, he missed an entire year due to an Achilles injury. While he’s come back strong from that setback, staying healthy is paramount in his quest to climb the All-Time Scoring List.

Assuming Durant continues to play at a high level and averages around 70 games a season over the next four years, he could accumulate approximately 2,682 points per season, given his career-scoring average of 27.3 points per game. Over 280 games (four seasons), that would result in 7,659 points. Adding this to his current career total of 26,892 points would give Durant approximately 34,551 points. With this total, Durant could surpass Kobe Bryant’s 33,643 career points and even Michael Jordan’s 32,292 points, securing the fourth position on the All-Time Scoring List.

However, this projection is based on several assumptions, and numerous variables can come into play. Injuries, player roles, and the unpredictability of NBA seasons are just a few examples. If Durant can maintain his level of play and stay relatively healthy, he has a realistic chance of finishing his career in the top four of the All-Time Scoring List, behind only Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Karl Malone, and LeBron James.

In conclusion, while Durant faces several challenges that could influence his final standing on the All-Time Scoring List, it’s evident that he possesses the skill and determination to continue moving up the ranks. His tenure with the Phoenix Suns provides a different context for his scoring abilities, but he remains a vital offensive contributor to his team. If he can navigate these challenges, stay healthy, and continue to produce at a high level, Kevin Durant has a strong chance of finishing his career as one of the greatest scorers in NBA history, cementing his legacy among the legends of the game.
