With just days to go before the start of the season, LeBron James sent a cryptic message to some of his biggest NBA rivals right now. When asked specifically about how he’ll respond to the trash talk from Dillon Brooks, Michael Malone, and others, James simply said that everything will be made clear in time.
“There will be a time when everybody will get it,” he said with a smirk.
I asked LeBron James, with Dillon Brook’s trash talk and Michael Malone’s comments throughout the postseason, what‘s his line of when he feels the need to respond.

Last season was pretty rough all around for the Los Angeles Lakers. Up until February, they were one of the worst teams in the West and had to work for months to give themselves a chance in the play-in. Fortunately, thanks to a series of last-minute trades, the Lakers managed to stay alive in the West and even made a run to the West Finals before being swept by the Nuggets. All season long, with the Lakers down bad, teams and players took turns taking shots and LeBron was often caught in the middle. The worst of these verbal jabs came from Dillon Brooks and Michael Malone, who may come to regret riling up the King.
Brooks And Malone Called Out LeBron
It takes some serious guts to trash-talk one of the game’s all-time best players but Dillon Brooks did it unapologeticly last season. Leading up to the first-round series against the Lakers, Brooks specifically called out LeBron, famously saying that he doesn’t have respect for any player until they “give me 40.” LeBron already crushed Brooks and the Grizzlies last season, but Dillon’s refusal to stand down will no doubt serve as an extra slice of motivation going into the new season.
In the case of Michael Malone, he may also find out what it means to invoke the wrath of LeBron James. After beating LeBron and the Lakers in the Conference Finals, Malone made a big show out of the celebration and took some jabs at the Purple and Gold several times in the aftermath of Denver’s series win. As the defending champions, the Nuggets certainly have bragging rights over LeBron for now, but that will change in an instant if they lose to LA in the 2024 postseason.
Lakers Are The Team To Beat In The West
There’s no question that LeBron is more locked in than ever coming into this new NBA season, and it could lead to his best stretch yet as a Laker. With averages of 28.9 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 6.8 assists per game on 50% shooting last season, Lebron showed he can still play at a high level and there’s no reason to doubt he can keep it going for at least one more season.
On opening night this week, we’ll get the first look at this revamped Lakers roster and there are high hopes for what they can do. Besides the return of Anthony Davis, who is expected to be in the MVP conversation, the Lakers will also rely on Austin Reaves, Jarred Vanderbilt, and former All-Star guard D’Angelo Russell to carry them this season. For now, we still don’t know how this squad stacks up to the rest of the West but after making improvements to their Conference Finals crew last season, experts are convinced that the Lakers will be among the last teams standing when it’s all said and done.
