LaVar Ball is never been one to shy away from speaking his mind, even if it draws criticism or raises eyebrows. However, there was one incident back in 2019 that caused him to be banned from ESPN interviews, involving Molly Qerim, who was married to Jalen Rose at the time.

In an interview with Vlad TV, four years after the incident, Ball addressed the situation, defending his actions. “She said ‘switch gears,’ I said the same thing. … Her mind is in the gutter thinking that every man want her. To me, she look like Witchiepoo. That’s not a good-looking woman to me.” (0:45)

During an episode of ESPN’s “First Take,” Ball was discussing his son Lonzo’s basketball performance with the show’s host, Max Kellerman. When Qerim interjected with the phrase “switch gears” to steer the conversation in a different direction, Ball humorously replied, “You can switch gears with me anytime.” This comment was deemed inappropriate and reportedly led to Ball’s temporary ban from ESPN interviews.

Ball’s blunt remarks exemplify his refusal to back down or alter his unfiltered style. The “switch gears” comment incident, while raising eyebrows and causing controversy at the time, has become another example of LaVar Ball’s unapologetic and candid approach to sharing his thoughts, regardless of potential consequences or backlash.

Jalen Rose Did Not Care About LaVar Ball’s Comments

Jalen Rose, a former NBA player and prominent sports analyst, addressed the Molly Qerim-LaVar Ball incident in a nonchalant manner, downplaying its significance. According to Rose, it was merely a live TV moment, and both he and Qerim didn’t dwell on it or consider it a major issue.

He emphasized that Qerim wasn’t upset about the exchange and didn’t react emotionally after the incident. Rose’s perspective was that such moments are part of the territory when working in live television and sports, and they chose to move on without giving it excessive attention.

While Rose’s response may suggest that he didn’t take LaVar Ball’s comments seriously or view them as offensive, it’s essential to remember that individuals have varying thresholds for what they find acceptable. Rose’s reaction may be a reflection of his personal attitude towards the situation and his professional experience, which allows him to navigate these moments with ease.

However, Molly Qerim’s comfort level and perception of the incident might differ. Each person involved may have processed the situation in their own way, and Rose’s response represents his own perspective on the matter.
