LaVar Ball was born and brought up in South Central Los Angeles during the 1970s and 1980s, an area known for serious crime and gang-related issues. He recently spoke about how he avoided all of those things growing up.

“Well, like I said, I’m big with family,” Ball explained on Vlad TV. “South Central was just… A lot of fans out there, the Crips and the Bloods.”

He went into detail about his family’s influence, saying, “It’s pretty rough out there, but it wasn’t rough for me, on the fact that I have four brothers and two sisters. My mom and dad was in the house. So we was good. We had our own dang gang.”

LaVar Ball elaborated on the benefits of it, adding, “Enough of us for that. So I never went to a side where I was like, ‘Oh I gotta be in this gang to be validated or to have a family.’ Cuz I already got my family. And you know, my mom and dad instilled great things in us, so we good to go!”

A lot of youngsters turn to a life of crime because they lack adequate parental and familial support. LaVar Ball’s parents and his parenting of his three sons show that a supportive family can massively change people’s lives for the better.

LaVar Ball’s Businesses And Net Worth

LaVar Ball managed to make the most of his family’s backing and was signed by the New York Jets of the NFL in 1995. He didn’t play an NFL game, but he was on the practice squad for the Carolina Panthers later as well.

After that, LaVar Ball became a personal trainer in California and eventually a businessman. His venture, Big Baller Brand, while often getting him laughed at, is among the businesses that have garnered him an estimated net worth of $6 million.

Under the umbrella of Big Baller Brand, LaVar Ball has been involved in business with the Lithuanian basketball club Vytautas Prienai–Birstonas and the Junior Basketball Association. While his businesses haven’t been huge successes, he has done enough to get two of his sons LaMelo and Lonzo, into the NBA.

LaVar Ball Tried To Get Kyrie Irving To Join Big Baller Brand

LaVar Ball is not satisfied with the level of success that he and his sons have achieved. He wants to grow the Big Baller Brand more than ever. And he made a bold play to that end in 2022.

Kyrie Irving signed with the shoe company Anta after Nike dropped him, but not before LaVar Ball tried to recruit him. LaVar Ball offered Kyrie Irving ownership in the brand if he would join them.

His style and his antics may earn LaVar Ball much criticism, but he is a success story, considering his background. He could have made some bad decisions growing up where he did, but instead, he became a millionaire and a father who helped his sons achieve their dreams.
