• Jaylen Brown had jokes for Jaren Jackson Jr. when the Grizzlies slid into his comments on Instagram
• On a picture of Brown and new Grizzlies guard Marcus Smart, Jackson commented saying Smart was his brother now
• Brown responded by saying Smart didn’t even like his teammates in Memphis
Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart developed a close relationship over the seven years they spent on the Celtics together. Now that Smart is on the Grizzlies, Brown will see Smart form new relationships with the likes of Jaren Jackson Jr.
When JJJ tried claiming Smart as his brother now, Brown responded with a ruthless comment that ended the conversation.
“Cap, he don’t even f**k with y’all.”

This is all light-hearted banter. It seems the Celtics boys have remained on great terms with Smart, including Jayson Tatum. The Grizzlies players are also embracing the former Defensive Player of the Year.
Everyone expects this move to be a big loss for the Celtics, but they’ll hope that the production Kristaps Porzingis brings to the table could be enough to help them get over the championship hump.
Marcus Smart Thought He Was Safe In Trade Talks
The trade to the Grizzlies caught Marcus Smart by surprise, who was allegedly told that he was safe from trade talks. Instead, he was traded just a few days later without a prior warning.
“I went to the gym the next day to get my stuff, and talked to Brad (Stevens) and Joe (Mazzulla). It was definitely shocking to find out that way, especially because the week before, I was already told we were good, there were no trade talks with me and we were good. I understand the business side of it, I’ve always been like that. I’m the first one to tell anyone that you can’t mix personal with business, it just doesn’t mix. I understand it’s a business. For me, it’s just the courtesy.”
The Celtics probably told Smart the truth, but when they couldn’t route Malcolm Brogdon to the Los Angeles Clippers due to a failed medical, the Celtics had to improvise and include Smart, which also netted them two additional first-round picks along with Porzingis.
The Celtics’ Attempt At Trading Malcolm Brogdon Has Caused Problems
Ever since the attempt at moving Brogdon for Porzingis, the player has felt unsettled with the Celtics, according to a recent report. While it is a part of the business, Brogdon is right to feel upset over the situation.
“Malcolm is the one I’m concerned about, too, because we’ve heard nothing,” Washburn said. “And he’s angry with the team. So, I don’t think communication between the two sides has been fruitful… He was not happy with how the deal went down.”
It seems his grievances might go deeper than that, as Brogdon is reportedly upset about the handling of his elbow injury by the Celtics as well. With a cacophony of issues for the guard they acquired last summer in a trade, the Celtics will go into the season with a lack of elite guard play.
Brogdon won Sixth Man of the Year last season but could become a starter this season if he’s healthy. Otherwise, it seems the Celtics will run Derrick White alongside Jaylen Brown in the backcourt with a frontcourt three, including Jayson Tatum, Kristaps Porzingis, and one of Robert Williams or Al Horford. Smart’s absence will be felt, but the team will need to band together to replace his efforts and hustle.
