  • Tyrese Maxey’s trainer, Drew Hanlen, believes that Maxey can average 25 points per game
  • The young star might be in line for a new and bigger role next season
  • Maxey averaged 20.3 points for the Philadelphia 76ers last season

The Philadelphia 76ers were a contender last season, and they were clearly one of the better regular-season teams in the league. Unfortunately, the team has been in a state of uncertainty due to James Harden requesting a trade from the franchise.

One of the good things that is going for the franchise right now is young star Tyrese Maxey and his development. Maxey has shown to be a competent No. 3 option behind Joel Embiid and James Harden, and if Harden leaves, he might end up with a bigger role. Maxey’s trainer Drew Hanlen has already hyped him up, stating that he will be disappointed if Maxey doesn’t get 25 points per game.

“If Tyrese Maxey doesn’t average 25ppg, I’m going to be disappointed.”

Though Tyrese Maxey scoring more will obviously be beneficial, the key thing that Maxey will need to focus on if James Harden leaves is his facilitation. He will be asked to run the offense a lot more, and will obviously have the ball a lot more in his hands.

This past season, Tyrese Maxey averaged 20.3 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game, while shooting 43.4% from 3PT range. He was highly efficient last season, and we’ll see how Maxey does this year.

Tyrese Maxey Says The 76ers Will Still Try To Win Without James Harden

Though the 76ers will obviously get worse with James Harden’s departure, it is quite clear that they will still have enough talent to be competitive. In fact, Tyrese Maxey previously said that the 76ers will still try to win the championship without Harden.

“I think with the position that the Sixers are in we can’t ever see a season as ‘a wash.’ We have talent. We have the reigning MVP on our team. We have to go out there and expect to win. Expect to still try to complete our goal. It’ll definitely be even more difficult now that one of our best players has decided as of right now he doesn’t want to come back and play. That’s how life goes.”

Of course, the team will have a much tougher time winning the championship without James Harden. However, Tyrese Maxey seems to be up to the challenge, and hopefully, he can step up and help Joel Embiid lead the Philadelphia 76ers on a deep playoff run.

Tyrese Maxey Is One Of The Best Value Contracts In The League

Next season, Tyrese Maxey will only make $4.3 million, and based on his production that is one of the best value contracts in the league. It is fair to say that Tyrese Maxey is one of the most underpaid players for the 2023-24 season, and the Philadelphia 76ers are lucky to have him. Though he is eligible for an extension right now, that has obviously been put on hold due to the James Harden situation.

There is no doubt that Tyrese Maxey is one of the successful stories of the Philadelphia 76ers’ development system. Hopefully, he can become an All-Star-level player for the franchise, and that would certainly help them in their pursuit of a championship going forward.
