- Kevin Porter Jr. was facing second-degree assault charges for attacking his girlfriend Kysre Gondrezick
- Gondrezick suffered multiple injuries, including a fractured vertebra in her neck
- It has now been revealed the neck injury wasn’t caused by Porter
Kevin Porter Jr. is in deep trouble after he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend Kysre Gondrezick, but it appears he and his team want the second-degree felony assault charge to be dropped. The reason for this is that Gondrezick’s neck vertebra wasn’t broken because of Porter.
“Prosecutors initially said the savage beatdown left Gondrezick with a fractured vertebra, according to a criminal complaint,” Priscilla DeGregory wrote. “But documents reviewed by The Post showed the fracture was actually a congenital defect and did not come from the row — a fact the DA’s office has now conceded, according to his defense team.”
Had he been found guilty of second-degree felony assault, Porter faced a maximum penalty of seven years in prison. Even if this charge gets dropped, though, the 23-year-old would still be facing a maximum penalty of seven years.
As per the Post, he would be facing third-degree assault and second-degree strangulation charges. If he gets convicted of the latter, then it’s a maximum of seven years in prison.
Kysre Gondrezick’s Attorney Spoke On The Situation
While the Houston Rockets guard did not cause the neck injury, there are still plenty of troubling allegations against him. Porter allegedly punched Gondrezick multiple times and squeezed her neck, which caused loss of motion to her left arm.
While Porter was condemned from all corners, the former WNBA player and her camp have urged the public to avoid speculation. Gondrezick’s agent spoke on the Porter incident and stated that much of what has been attributed to her is misleading and inaccurate.
We’ll just have to wait and see what happens here, but it’s still not a good look for Porter, no matter how you slice and dice it. The fact of the matter is that Gondrezick had to be treated for multiple injuries after the incident, and there’s no excuse for that.
Gondrezick’s sister has continued to blast Porter, and she claims the 26-year-old could have been killed by him that night. Her feelings on the matter are crystal clear, but it remains to be seen what Kysre has to say.
What Is The NBA Doing?
NBA commissioner Adam Silver stated the allegations are horrific, but added he doesn’t know the facts yet. Porter’s NBA future is in peril, though, as the league has launched an investigation into this assault incident.
The Rockets cannot waive or suspend Porter while this investigation is going on, in case anyone was wondering why they haven’t done anything yet. The Rockets are looking to trade Porter and whichever team he ends up on, would probably then cut him.
What really is the nail in the coffin for Porter here, is that this isn’t the first time he has found himself in trouble. Porter’s history of felony assault and violence is very disturbing and if the NBA’s investigation reveals that he is guilty, then you’d think his career is over.
Porter had just signed a four-year, $63.4 million deal last year and had a pretty good 2022-23 season, averaging 19.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, 5.7 assists, 1.4 steals, and 0.3 blocks per game. Had he stayed out of trouble, the future was looking bright, but all you see now is darkness.
