Rockets star Kevin Porter Jr. was on his way to a successful NBA career before his arrest was made public this week. Porter, a four-year NBA veteran, was arrested in New York City a few days ago for his involvement in a domestic assault incident against his girlfriend, Kysre Gondrezick.

As law enforcement builds its case against the NBA star, the league itself is also launching its own investigation that could jeopardize his basketball future: “The league launched an investigation and they’ll handle it in the near-term. The Houston Rockets, by the by-laws, they can’t suspend him, they can’t waive him while this investigation is going on,” reported ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. “Adam Silver could put him on administrative leave, but certainly his future in Houston is very much in jeopardy. Going back a number of years to the Cleveland Cavaliers, Houston Rockets, problems have followed him. There’s no question Kevin Porter Jr.’s future, not just with the Rockets, but in the NBA is very much in peril.”

The NBA does not take kindly to situations such as these, and it’s obvious that Kevin Porter Jr. will face some kind of punishment, whether it’s a fine suspension or a mix of both. In this case, however, the penalty may be even more extreme given the questionable history at play here.

Kevin Porter Jr. Struggles With Major Anger Problems

Sadly, this incident with Porter isn’t just a one-time thing. If you go back and look at his past, there were a number of warning signs that he was headed towards a major scandal. Back in January of last year, the seriousness of his anger issues were revealed to the public for the very first time.

“Porter has well-documented anger management issues — which the team believes he has made progress on — but those surfaced again Saturday and ultimately drove him to leave the arena instead of rejoining the team for the second half, sources said,” wrote Adrian Wojnarowski and Tim MacMahon.

That report came just days after Porter Jr. was suspended by the team for throwing an object at Rockets assistant coach, John Lucas. Sadly, despite Kevin’s undeniable talent as a score-first point guard, his inability to control emotions may be what ultimately ends his tenure in the NBA.

Ugly Details Emerge On The Recent Assault Allegations

If Kevin Porter’s dark history wasn’t enough to put him on thin ice, the seriousness of this incident alone could force a strong reaction from the league. According to the latest details, Gondrezick suffered some serious injuries, including a fractured neck and multiple bruises on her face.

According to first-hand accounts from the victim, the Rockets star repeatedly punched his girlfriend in the face and wrapped his hands around her neck that left noticeable bruising. The scene was so bad that Porter was taken into custody right away, and was forced to pay $75,000 in cash to cover his bail.

Obviously, that’s just the beginning for Porter Jr. As more details emerge over the next few days, weeks, and months, the public will increase outrage for Porter Jr., and the pressure will build for the NBA to take extreme measures against him. It’s all bad news for the Houston Rockets and their fans, but the NBA is definitely aiming to send a message here to make an example out of troublesome players.
