  • The Miami Heat could use Tyler Herro as a primary ballhandler next season
  • Kyle Lowry would keep coming off the bench
  • Josh Richardson is another option for the position

The Miami Heat made the NBA Finals last season, and they are clearly a good team right now. Still, the team is lacking some dynamism on offense, and it seems as though they have been looking for answers to that problem.

There is no doubt that the Miami Heat have been the main suitors for Damian Lillard, but there is a possibility that this pursuit won’t work out for the franchise. In that scenario, the team could end up running shooting guard Tyler Herro as the primary ballhandler for the team.

“Kyle Lowry is the only natural point guard on the Heat’s roster, but a person familiar with the team’s thinking said he won’t be surprised if the Heat opts for Tyler Herro or even Josh Richardson as a starting primary ball handler if it’s unable to acquire Lillard before the season opener,” per Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald. “Lowry could continue to come off the bench in that scenario.”

Though Tyler Herro is a shooting guard who plays off the ball a lot, using him as a primary ballhandler could help him grow. He isn’t a particularly dynamic playmaker right now, but that might change with reps and experience.

This past season, Tyler Herro averaged 20.1 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game for the Miami Heat while shooting 37.8% from 3PT range. If he gets to be the point guard next season, we could see a breakout year from Herro. Hopefully, the young guard takes a leap for the Heat.

The Miami Heat Are Trying To Land Damian Lillard Without Trading Tyler Herro

There is no doubt that Tyler Herro has been a crucial player for the Miami Heat, and losing him would be a huge blow. In fact, a previous report indicated that the Miami Heat are trying to find a way to trade for Damian Lillard without offering Tyler Herro.

“While a deal does not appear to be imminent, the Heat have been internally discussing multi-team scenarios that would result in them not only landing Lillard but keeping emerging star Tyler Herro as well.”

It is highly unlikely that the Miami Heat will find a way to acquire Damian Lillard without Tyler Herro, as he is their most valuable player besides Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo. Still, stranger things have happened, and if the Heat manage to keep Herro and acquire Lillard, they will become the favorites in the Eastern Conference.

Tyler Herro Is Not Happy With Miami Heat Because Of His Inclusion In Trade Talks

Though the Miami Heat are relatively averse to trading Tyler Herro, there have been some superstar trade packages that included the young guard. A previous report revealed that Tyler Herro is unhappy with the Miami Heat for including him in Damian Lillard trade talks. A lot of players would be upset if put through a similar scenario, and it’s hard not to empathize with Herro.

With that being said, there is no shame for Tyler Herro in being traded for Damian Lillard. The superstar is one of the premier point guards in the league, and most people would agree that Herro is not on that level. At the end of the day, the NBA is a business, and most players in the league are available to trade for at the right price.
