  • LeBron James is spearheading an effort to build the ultimate Team USA lineup for the 2024 Olympics
  • Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry are among those also expected to commit, reports Shams Charania
  • LeBron James reportedly planned for this even before Team USA lost embarrassingly at the 2023 FIBA World Cup

Team USA is dealing with the embarrassment of failing to win a medal at the 2023 FIBA World Cup. The team lost the bronze medal game against Canada, and fans are in uproar but that might change soon.

According to the latest report by Shams Charania for The Athletic, LeBron James is spearheading a charge to help recruit the most prominent NBA superstars for the 2024 Olympics.

“LeBron James, a three-time Olympian, two-time gold medalist, and the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, has so strong an interest in one more Olympics that he is ready to commit for next summer, and has also called multiple stars to essentially recruit them to join him with USAB in Paris, multiple league sources told The Athletic.

“James has spoken to Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Anthony Davis, Jayson Tatum, and Draymond Green, and they are all prepared to commit as well.

“Separately, Phoenix’s Devin Booker, Portland’s Damian Lillard, Sacramento’s De’Aaron Fox, and Dallas’ Kyrie Irving also have serious interest in committing, league sources said.

Sources: LeBron James wants to represent Team USA at 2024 Paris Olympics and is spearheading group of future Hall of Famers – including Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant – prepared to commit.

The Team USA roster for the FIBA World Cup was heavily criticized for having a serious lack of star power. Ultimately, the naysayers were proved right, with the team losing to Lithuania, Germany, and Canada during the tournament.

If LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, and all these other NBA superstars commit, the 2024 Olympics will surely look different. Another Dream Team could potentially be on the way for Team USA.

LeBron James Was Planning This Even Before Team USA’s Loss At The FIBA World Cup

Many will think that a team like this being put together is because of the lack of a medal at the World Cup. But according to Charania, this has been in the works for a while with LeBron James leading the charge.

“James’ effort started well before the USA World Cup team, led by Anthony Edwards and Mikal Bridges, lost at the World Cup, and was not related to whether this summer’s team won or lost.

“James and Durant are viewing the Paris games as a ‘last dance’ with USA Basketball, sources said.”

LeBron James is chasing the legacy of the GOAT, Michael Jordan. And while he was on two stacked Team USA rosters including the Redeem Team, it seems one more legendary lineup could be on the cards for next summer.

The Perfect Team USA Roster For The 2024 Olympics

Team USA does not lack for talent, some of the best basketball players in the world are American. Similar to what LeBron James is thinking, our writer Eddie Bitar created a powerful roster for Team USA at the 2024 Olympics.

Point Guards – Stephen Curry, Kyrie Irving, Damian Lillard

Shooting Guards – Devin Booker, Donovan Mitchell

Small Forwards – LeBron James, Kawhi Leonard

Power Forwards – Kevin Durant, Jayson Tatum, Zion Williamson

Centers – Anthony Davis, Bam Adebayo

As much as the international basketball landscape has changed and teams have improved, this roster would demolish anything any other country can put out. And with the news that LeBron James is leading the way, it looks very likely to happen, too.

Team USA has won four consecutive Olympic medals since the debacle of 2004, and they will be motivated to continue that streak. If LeBron James brings his ultimate team together, there will be absolutely no stopping them.
