As the team surprisingly lost their 5th game before the quarter-finals against Lithuania though, Jaren Jackson Jr. was one of the players that disappointed the most. The Memphis Grizzlies star had more fouls than points in the game and fouled out.

After starting the game, Jaren Jackson Jr. attempted just three shots in his 15 minutes on the court, making only one of them to give him his three points.

It would have been understandable if he wasn’t contributing to the offensive end because he was locking down the defense. But Jaren Jackson Jr. could do nothing as Team USA gave up 31 points in the first quarter and dug themselves into a huge hole.

This Team USA roster has a lot of doubters because of the lack of proper NBA star power. If these young stars want to establish themselves as next up, they cannot afford another game like this in the knockout stages.

Fans Flamed Jaren Jackson Jr. For His Abysmal Performance

Jaren Jackson Jr. has a lot of supporters, but a performance like this was always going to garner widespread ridicule. His DPOY win over Bam Adebayo is something some fans have never gotten over and it came up after this game.

The NBA really gave Marcus Smart and JJJ a DPOY trophy before Bam Adebayo. Have some shame @NBA https://t.co/iWftc5FHDZ pic.twitter.com/goPZryjHxW

Jaren Jackson Jr. is widely considered the most promising young big man in the NBA, but one fan thinks this performance is enough to say Nic Claxton is a better defender.

You can’t tell me Claxton wouldn’t be miles ahead of him defensively if he played with an actual center 😂😂😂 https://t.co/EY516GBe4q

Jaren Jackson Jr. has massively struggled with fouling a lot in his young career, and that issue reared its ugly head in this game. One fan questioned what that says about his defensive abilities.

It wouldn’t be NBA fans trolling a basketball player without at least one making a joke about them having to play in China.

And while some fans were busy blaming Jaren Jackson Jr. for the loss, one fan thinks it pointed out the issues with the entire roster.

Team isn't built to sustain a bad game from him. Flawed roster with too much youth and inexperience. Not enough rebounding or quality bigs. https://t.co/yANzABIrEj

The 23-year-old has already played in some high-profile games, and he will surely bounce back once the knockout stages of the tournament begin.

If he cannot come back from this performance, Jaren Jackson Jr. will have to deal with a lot of ridicule moving forward.

Jaren Jackson Jr.’s Words About His Aggressive Defense Are Already Backfiring On Him

Jaren Jackson Jr. was called out about his aggressive style of play recently, and his response wasn’t exactly humble. Jaren Jackson Jr. doubled down on the way he plays, even though there was an issue with it costing him fouls.

“Go get it, man,” he continued. “It comes with it. If I’m gonna be less aggressive, I’m gonna have fewer blocks, I’m gonna bring less rim protection, and I’ma have less fouls with all that. Pick one or the other. Which one do you want? Do you want me to be great or not?”

Jaren Jackson Jr. led the league in fouls for the 2022-23 season, averaging 3.6 fouls per game. He also had 5 fouls against New Zealand at the FIBA World Cup before this. His fouling is starting to become a big problem for all of his teams.
