A post on social media showed that Kawhi Leonard rarely ever smiles, and there was even a picture of him with a neutral expression as a child. Naturally, NBA fans in the comments had a lot to say.

One fan commented on Leonard’s demeanor saying, “You can tell bro fr done been through some stuff.”

Another said, “Bro Dunking the ball like he’d rather be anywhere in the world but on that court.”

A third alluded to Leonard’s tragic childhood past, writing, “Nothing to smile about if you know his backstory.”

One fan said, “Wouldn’t want Kawhi to be any other way though!”

Kawhi Leonard is certainly one of the most unique superstars in the NBA, but that’s because his story is also so unique.

Kawhi Leonard’s Story Is Fascinating

Kawhi Leonard has a tragic past when it comes to his childhood. His father Mark Leonard was murdered in 2008 when Kawhi was 17 years old. Leonard went on to distinguish himself at all levels playing basketball.

In high school, Kawhi Leonard averaged 22.6 points, 13.1 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 3 blocks per game his senior year and was named Mr. California Basketball.

He went to San Diego State for college and helped them win the Mountain West Conference as a freshman. He became an All-American in College and was eventually drafted with the 15th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft.

After being dealt to the San Antonio Spurs by the Indiana Pacers, Leonard would go on to win a championship and a Finals MVP in 2014 before adding another set five years later in 2019 with the Toronto Raptors.

To achieve all of that despite having dealt with such a horrific tragedy is a testament to Leonard’s greatness. He deserves the utmost respect.

Michael Jordan Once Made Kawhi Leonard Smile

It’s not like Kawhi Leonard never smiles either, he once even laughed at a press conference and described himself as a ‘fun guy.’ But there is one particular photo of him with the GOAT, Michael Jordan, that’s a great example.

When attending the event in honor of the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Team, Kawhi Leonard was hanging out with Michael Jordan. And the GOAT made him smile, which was captured on camera.

Kawhi Leonard is a private individual, and we will likely not hear too much from him when he retires. But his legacy is already such that he has ensured he will never be forgotten.

Despite his injury issues, Kawhi Leonard could still deliver a championship too. When he is fit, he is unstoppable come playoff time. So Leonard and the Los Angeles Clippers could have a reason to smile by the end of next season too.
