  • Karl-Anthony Towns put up 39 points and 10 rebounds for the Dominican Republic against Puerto Rico
  • It was not enough, as the Dominican Republic and Towns fell to a narrow 102-97 loss
  • Karl-Anthony Towns’ performance led to fans on social media showing him love

Karl-Anthony Towns has been questioned time and again during his short Minnesota Timberwolves career for not being able to perform consistently or at the right times.

He is representing the Dominican Republic at the 2023 FIBA World Cup, where he has impressed in games so far. And in a second-round game against Puerto Rico, he put up epic numbers in a loss, which fans duly appreciated him for.

Karl-Anthony Towns has averaged 23.0 points, 11.2 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game in his 8-year NBA career, but he often gets talked about like he is a scrub. One fan thinks Towns is better than the Miami Heat’s Bam Adebayo.

Karl-Anthony Towns is one of the American stars who has made an effort to learn about his heritage and is now representing that country. The effort he is putting in for the Dominican Republic is also being appreciated.

While the FIBA World Cup has been entertaining and led to a lot of good performances, NBA fans ultimately only care about the league. As one fan said, people want to see this KAT for the entirety of an NBA season.

Karl-Anthony Towns can do no right in the eyes of some, and to sum up the comments that weren’t supportive, one fan put it very simply.

Karl-Anthony Towns will turn 28 years old in November, he is no longer a young player. With his teammate Anthony Edwards blossoming into a superstar, this is the season for Towns to take the next step and become a true premier NBA player.

Karl-Anthony Towns Is Dealing With A Lot Of Talk About Being Traded

For any star that averages 23 points and nearly 12 rebounds for their career, being traded should be an impossibility. Yet that is where Towns finds himself at the moment.

Anthony Edwards becoming a superstar in the NBA has meant that Karl-Anthony Towns is no longer the man in Minnesota and is seen by some as an asset that can be traded for the team to move forward and improve.

Karl-Anthony Towns has been mentioned as a potential option for the Dallas Mavericks, who already have their backcourt settled and need a center.

A move to the Miami Heat or the Philadelphia 76ers as part of trades for Damian Lillard or James Harden could also be on the cards, and it’s impressive that he is putting up 39 points and 10 rebounds while all this swirls around him.

The Minnesota Timberwolves Will Likely Give It Another Shot Next Season

Despite all the trade talk, it’s unlikely that the Minnesota Timberwolves will move on from Karl-Anthony Towns just yet.

Anthony Edwards was an All-Star last season and looks to be taking another step over the offseason. If Towns can keep himself healthy and average 25 points and 12 rebounds for the Minnesota Timberwolves, they will become contenders.

Arguably, with Towns averaging just 20.8 points and 8.1 rebounds per game last season, it doesn’t seem like things are changing for the better. But this FIBA World Cup so far will have reminded the organization that they have two incredible talents.

Karl-Anthony Towns thinks he can make it work with Rudy Gobert on the Timberwolves, but whether it works out remains to be seen. For now, he will be focused on taking the Dominican Republic as far as they can go in the World Cup.
