  • Morant is ready to make things right after a scandalous stretch
  • Ja is willing to take accountability for his previous mistakes
  • Morant wants to make amends after his failed 2021-22 campaign

Grizzlies star Ja Morant has kept his head down since his Instagram Live incident back in May of this year. After curiously flashing a gun on camera (for the second time in his career), the young point guard received a 25-game suspension that will be served starting next season.

On social media this week, Morant showed that he may be taking his situation seriously by sporting some interesting shirts during a summer workout photoshoot.

The words “rebirth,” “gratitude,” and “accountability” are no doubt related to his ongoing situation. After so many blatant mistakes, Ja lost a lot of his loyal fans and he’s facing an uphill climb to win back the favor of the NBA fanbase.

The path to redemption for Morant begins with a total “rebirth,” meaning a rebuilding of his entire reputation from the ground up. If he can stay out of trouble and hold his teammates accountable next season, it will be a good start to getting his career back on track.

The most interesting message was no doubt the word “accountability,” which could be a sign that Morant is ready to take full responsibility for the actions of himself and his posse, which include harassing opponents with red laser pointers, beating up a 17-year-old teenager, and getting into a tussle with mall security over an incident with a store employee.

Ja’s actions severely hurt the Grizzlies last season and it remains to be seen what’s in store for them given that some of Ja’s previous actions have already impacted the 2023-24 campaign.

Will The Grizzlies Be Contenders Next Season?

At his best, Morant is a top-10 player in the game and the Grizzlies are a legitimate threat. Before their late-season collapse, Memphis was first in the West for several weeks as Ja was near the top of the MVP discussion with averages of 26.2 points, 8.1 assists, and 5.9 rebounds per game on 46.6% shooting.

With mostly the same roster (and the addition of Marc Smart), there’s no reason to think that the Grizzlies will not pose a threat to the Western elites. With Desmond Bane, Steven Adams, and Jaren Jackson Jr. among others, Memphis has everything they need to become the NBA’s newest dynasty.

But until Morant gets his act together, the team will never reach their true potential. needless to say, everything rests on his recovery and a return to form after some ugly mistakes.
