Once considered among the most likable stars in basketball, Ja Morant’s fall from grace has been a wild thing to watch. This season has already seen Morant’s reputation take a massive hit, and the latest report of his shenanigans this week will only further the negativity.

In the latest piece by The Washington Post, a new altercation was exposed that featured Morant, his mother, and a mall security officer who may have been jumped by Morant and his crew.

“Confronted by the mall security, Morant and his friends refused the security guard’s demands to leave the mall parking lot. Police arrived and a “verbal confrontation” escalated,” the report claims. “As the group was leaving the premises, Ja Morant said ‘let me find out what time he gets off.’ The guard waited to file a report, police wrote, ‘because he felt threatened by the statement from Ja Morant’ and had been assaulted by the person who had pushed him.”

Obviously, this isn’t the type of behavior any team would want from their franchise guy. On the court, Ja is a beast and he’s got the type of energy and playstyle that can carry a team for years.

But Morant’s recent off-court antics have really put his character into question, and people find themselves wondering if the young star has what it takes to be the leader and role model that the Grizzlies need him to be.

How Will This Scandal Impact Morant’s Legacy?

While nobody can argue that Ja is still a killer on the court, this ongoing drama behind the scenes has exposed the immaturity level of the Grizzlies, who have easily become the NBA’s most disliked team.

While we all knew how much Ja and his squad like to talk, harassing random people at the mall and beating up a 17-year-old kid is a few steps too far and the young point guard will likely encounter an unprecedented level of criticism and condemnation for his actions.

In truth, Morant will have to do more than just win the title to beat these allegations. He’ll have to show a level of respect and maturity that forces fans to reconsider what they think of No. 12.

For now, though, there’s no escaping this situation and all the fallow that is likely to follow…
