  • James Harden publicly called Philadelphia 76ers President Daryl Morey a liar
  • According to NBA insider Marc Stein, he is unlikely to be punished by the league for his comments
  • James Harden did not break any rules with his comments, according to Stein

James Harden shocked the NBA world when he publicly called Philadelphia 76ers President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey a liar. Many fans wondered if such harsh words from the superstar would result in some form of punishment from the league. However, according to NBA insider Marc Stein, this is unlikely.

“It’s difficult to see how Harden, for his part, will face any league discipline for what he said in China,” Stein reported. “He publicly and pointedly criticized the highest-ranking official in the 76ers’ front office, but there’s no league rule that precludes him from doing so.”

Players are generally not prone to directly calling out or insulting the franchises that they play for or the executives that make the decisions for those franchises. Any harsh comments against the league or owners might have led to punishment for Harden, but these comments will seemingly not lead to any adverse consequences.

The 33-year-old James Harden is in the middle of demanding a third trade in four years, and the situation has gotten quite ugly. Daryl Morey hasn’t had much to say in public about those comments, but the ball is in his court in terms of whether he will trade Harden away or not.

Daryl Morey Was Reportedly Unsurprised By James Harden’s Comments

This is a precarious situation for the Sixers and Morey, with James Harden on the warpath and rumors that Joel Embiid may want out if they don’t handle the situation properly. It’s not something that the 76ers President didn’t expect, though, with reports suggesting that he was unsurprised by Harden’s comments.

“A league source said Morey was not surprised by Harden’s commentary and his attempt to make things personal given his agent’s reaction this past weekend to being informed that the Sixers weren’t able to find a suitable deal.”

James Harden is under contract with the Philadelphia 76ers for one more year. But he had made it clear that there is no chance of the relationship between him and the Sixers getting better anytime soon. He may escape punishment for his comments, but both James Harden and Daryl Morey will likely have to deal with the fallout from this saga for the rest of their careers.
