- The Lakers have had a great offseason, but they still have a couple of open spots on their roster
- It has been reported that Christian Wood and Bismack Biyombo are leading candidates for the 14th spot
- NBA fans debated who would be the better fit for the team
The 2023 offseason was going to be a big one for the Los Angeles Lakers and the front office has managed to do a very good job. They brought back almost every key player from the team that made it all the way to the Western Conference Finals this past season.
There are still a couple of roster spots open, however, and two names that have been floated for one of them are Christian Wood and Bismack Biyombo. NBA fans on Twitter were asked who would be the better fit for the team and fans were split on the matter.
One believes it should be Biyombo and explained how he’d help Anthony Davis and LeBron James.

Wood’s offensive prowess gets him the nod from one fan who thinks he’d play better on defense with this group.
CWood would Be better Fit Because of His ability To Score Especially Being able to Shoot From Outside. And I think Playing With Bron&AD and A Team That is Defensive Minded Will get Him to Commit on that End

One fan says Wood isn’t a center and would end up taking some of Rui Hachimura’s minutes, so he’d go for Biyombo.
Biyombo 100%. Wood would only take minutes from Rui and is not a center at all.

A fan explained that considering Davis’ injury history, the Lakers should go for Wood as he can help on the offensive end in the big man’s absence.
Considering AD gets hurt all the time, the correct answer is Christian Wood. The problem is, it’s the off season. Ad is healthy. And people are thinking of other things the team needs. They forget AD will eventually hurt himself. u need someone who can do similar on offense.

A fan believes Wood isn’t a good fit anywhere and chose Biyombo.

This is a hard one simply because of how different the two players are. Wood is a good offensive player but struggles on defense while Biyombo is great on defense but doesn’t have much of an offensive game.
Who Should The Lakers Go For?
The 27-year-old Wood put up good numbers yet again in the 2022-23 campaign, as he averaged 16.6 points, 7.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 0.4 steals, and 1.1 blocks per game for the Dallas Mavericks. Those numbers make you wonder why someone hasn’t signed him yet, but teams around the league are concerned about his defense and professionalism.
As for Biyombo, the 30-year-old averaged 4.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, 0.9 assists, 0.3 steals, and 1.4 blocks per game for the Phoenix Suns last season. He played significantly fewer minutes than Wood (14.3 MPG compared to 25.9 MPG) though, so you can’t take those stats at face value.
At the end of the day, this comes down to whether the Lakers believe they can get the best out of Wood. That is no easy task, as there is a reason why he has played for seven teams in seven seasons. He just has not been able to fit in well at any of his pitstops, which makes you believe that Biyombo might just be the better option of the two.
