  • Daryl Morey is on the hot seat after a disappointing season
  • 76ers GM is the new scapegoat if the Sixers fail
  • All eyes are on Morey and Embiid with uncertain futures

After pulling off a miracle with the Ben Simmons trade, Daryl Morey was seen as a hero in Philly for his efforts to build a title contender around Joel Embiid. And while his ideas were applauded at first, Morey’s run with the franchise has not brought the kind of success anybody was hoping for.

Now, with James Harden having cut all ties with Morey and the organization, the situation has become pretty tense for everyone involved. According to the latest report from Keith Pompey, Morey could even be outed as GM/President if the team fails to make any traction next spring.

“The rhetoric that’s coming out now is if they don’t get it done this year, they’ll have a lot of cap space next year. It sounds like that gives you an extra year to see if you can get things done. The problem that Morey faces is before you had Doc Rivers, who you could blame, you could blame “The Process,” you could blame other people. Right now, all eyes are on Morey. He came here to bring James Harden. He’s also one of the most recognizable front-office executives in pro sports. The fact that he took over a Sixers team, and if they don’t get out of the second round, he’s going to take the blame and the brunt of it. He could be the guy that goes.”

Morey came to Philly with enormous aspirations but the Sixers have fallen flat time and time again. Unless something drastic happens this summer to tip the scales in their favor, the Sixers are in a decline with no signs of turning it around.

Joel Embiid’s Future Is In Jeopardy

As the main man in Philly, Joel Embiid isn’t looking to start another rebuild. He’s in his prime right now and cannot afford to waste any more time. So if things keep devolving for the franchise, Joel could decide to split…

“He’s finally kinda cracking the door open to the possibility of leaving, which would only add more urgency to the front office to make sure they are on their toes, making sure they are doing everything that they can to keep a winning roster around him,” said NBA insider Chris Haynes.

For now, it’s impossible to predict Embiid’s next move but it goes without saying that Philly is on the clock. If they can’t find a solution to their struggles, it could prompt the start of a long rebuild.
