Former superstars Dwyane Wade and Dirk Nowitzki will always be mentioned with another. The two faced off against one another in the 2006 and 2011 Finals. In the 2006 Finals, Wade got the best of Nowitzki, winning in six games. However in 2011, Nowitzki got his revenge, defeating Wade’s Miami Heat superteam in six games as well.
Though the two were rivals during their playing days, it seems as though the two have recently made a connection. When speaking to Brad Townsend of The Dallas Morning News, Dirk Nowitzki revealed that the duo ended up bonding while together in Houston for the 2023 Hall Of Fame Class announcement.
“Nowitzki, however, sounds genuinely glad that he’ll be enshrined with Wade. Nowitzki said he and Wade “actually bonded” in Houston in early April when the Hall Class of ‘23 was announced.”
“We sat together with his family during one of the dinners, and we talked, and so I think it’s going to be great. I think there’s a lot of mutual respect there now.”
It is always good to see two former rivals end up coming together after their careers are over. Though rivalries are obviously a part of basketball, things do change once the players have retired for a while. Hopefully, we see both continue to develop this bond going forward.
