Point guard D’Angelo Russell is one of the better players on the Los Angeles Lakers right now, and in terms of offense, he can do almost anything on the court. Russell is clearly a versatile player on that end and is good enough to play either guard position.
Despite the offensive talent and his being a former All-Star, D’Angelo Russell’s current contract with the Lakers is only two years, $37 million. It is clear that this is a bargain deal for a player of his caliber, and recently, Stephen A. Smith suggested that the point guard is “being undervalued”.
“I believe he is being undervalued. Listen, D’Angelo Russell can play. D’Angelo Russell, with all of your histrionics on the Pat Bev Podcast, let me explain something to you, bro. You are undervalued. You deserve more than a two-year, $36 million contract. Matter of fact, I’m of the mindset that you should be getting paid at least 25 to 27 million per year.”

Luckily for Russell, his deal is only a two-year deal, and perhaps he will show that he is worth more than what he got during the next two seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers. The team definitely needs his offensive production, and it’ll be interesting to see how he does next year.
This past season with the Los Angeles Lakers, D’Angelo Russell averaged 17.4 points per game, 2.9 rebounds per game, and 6.1 assists per game. There is no doubt that this is solid offensive production, and the point guard has clearly shown that he can be a good fit with LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

There is no doubt that D’Angelo Russell’s performance against the Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference Finals has made many fans turn on him. He was abysmal in that series, only averaging 6.3 points per game, 2.0 rebounds per game, and 3.5 assists per game.
However, that series has made his overall performance with the Los Angeles Lakers underrated. He was clearly good in the regular season and a much better fit with the team than point guard Russell Westbrook. In fact, Russell himself has suggested that he deserves more credit for how he did with the team.
The team clearly saw D’Angelo Russell’s value, despite his poor performance against the Denver Nuggets. Hopefully, Russell puts his playoff woes behind him going forward.
