- Kyrie Irving gave Russell Westbrook his flowers on an Instagram story
- Irving believes Russell Westbrook changed the game of basketball
- Russell Westbrook has always played his own style
Point guard Russell Westbrook isn’t the MVP-level player he once was, but there’s no doubt that he has shown that he is still an on the Los Angeles Clippers. In his prime, Westbrook was a force to be reckoned with, and many look back fondly upon his insane 2016-17 season that won him his MVP award.
Despite what Russell Westbrook has contributed to the game, he has a lot of detractors among fans who dislike his ball-dominant playstyle. However, it is clear that Russell Westbrook is well-respected among players. Recently, we saw Kyrie Irving shout out Russell Westbrook for revolutionizing the game and inspiring people to do things their way.
“Let’s not pretend that this dude right here didn’t revolutionize the game, and inspire all of us to do things “your way” and say f*** them all.”

There is no doubt that Russell Westbrook is a player that has always done things his way, and he has definitely revolutionized the game with all of his triple-doubles. He is the only player since Oscar Robertson to average a triple-double for an entire season, and Westbrook is clearly someone that is a model for hyper-athletic guards.
This past season Russell Westbrook averaged 15.9 points per game, 5.8 rebounds per game, and 7.5 assists per game during his time with the Los Angeles Lakers and the Los Angeles Clippers. Westbrook ended up staying with the Clippers on a two-year, $8 million deal in free agency. Hopefully, we see Westbrook do well with the team next year.
Russell Westbrook Has A Lot Of Respect From His Former Teammates
Aside from Kyrie Irving, a lot of other players respect Russell Westbrook, and what he ultimately brings to the table. In fact, Austin Reaves previously claimed that Westbrook is one of the best teammates that he’s ever had, noting that he empowered the others on the team to be “better and better”. It is clear that Reaves respected Westbrook as a leader in the locker room, even if his performances with the Lakers weren’t always top-tier.
Though some fans really dislike Russell Westbrook due to the way he plays basketball, it is clear that he is the sort of player that is valuable to a locker room. Sometimes, having a no-nonsense professional who can lead others on the court is extremely valuable, and Westbrook is clearly the sort of player that is a vocal player. It is good to see that Westbrook has found his fit with the Clippers, and hopefully, they can win a championship during his tenure.
