- Steve Kerr reveals the only reason why the Warriors hated Chris Paul was because they competed against him
- Kerr also emphasized Paul being too good of a player
- The Warriors coach now loves Paul and is excited to start the 2023-24 season with him on the roster
Chris Paul’s trade to the Golden State Warriors took the NBA community by surprise. The veteran point guard is one of the best in the business, but he has had a bitter rivalry with the Dubs over the years.
Head coach Steve Kerr recently cleared the air about the misconception regarding the Warriors hating Chris Paul. Kerr says the only reason why the Warriors didn’t like CP3 was because they were competing against him, and he was too good. The Warriors coach gave an example of how he hated Reggie Miller during his playing days.
“It reminded me a little bit of when I played Reggie Miller and played against each other in college and then the pros as well, and I used to hate Reggie,” Kerr said. “Then we became broadcast partners.
“I feel like that’s how kind of it’s going to be with Chris. We’ve all hated him because we were competing, and he was so good. And now that’s our guy, and we love him.”

It’s great to see that the Warriors and Paul have cleared their differences from the past. Earlier, Paul shed some light on his infamous fake laugh directed at Kerr.
At the end of the day, Paul remains an elite point guard in the league. He averaged 13.9 PPG, 4.3 RPG, and 8.9 APG last season. The Dubs will hope to see more of the same from the 38-year-old.
Steve Kerr Is Optimistic About Finding A Way To Play Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, And Chris Paul Together
Chris Paul has started every game in his career so far. He has started a combined 1363 regular season and playoff games throughout his time in the NBA.
But Paul’s streak may end in the 2023-24 NBA season. After all, there is very little possibility that the Dubs will start Chris Paul over Stephen Curry at the point guard position. Despite knowing that, Kerr is optimistic about finding a way to play them together alongside Klay Thompson.
“All of that will happen in training camp. Until we get everyone on the floor, we won’t be able to assess what’s best for our team and how everything is going to look. But I’m very confident that it’s going to work out.
“We got great guys, and we got great champions, great competitors. There’s one goal next year, and that’s to win at the highest possible level. Everything else will unfold as the season does.”
It seems the training camp will hold extra importance for the fate of Chris Paul with the Warriors. Either way, it will be interesting to see the new-look Warriors aim to win a ring this season.
