Michael Jordan flaunted a unique clothing style during the 1990s. He wore the iconic baggy suits off the court.
But what’s the story behind it? Jordan apparently had them custom-made via a Chicago-based luxury Italian menswear brand, Burdi Clothing. Rino Burdi, the current owner of the store, shared the story behind Jordan’s bigger jackets and extra wide-legged pants with Andscape.
“Jordan was buying sportswear from us originally, sweaters, shirts and polos, etc.,” said Rino Burdi. “After he had been shopping with us for a while, I asked my dad to come up and take some measurements for a custom suit. He was not expecting much, but he went to the fitting room to try it on anyway. When he came out he was absolutely in love.”
Burdi added: “We tried tailoring a suit to the way we thought was proper. But he wanted it back to the original try-on measurements, and his look was created. From the moment he became a custom client, it was a complete collaboration. He loved bright colors, fun and wild patterns. It wasn’t just clothes, it was an identity.”
Jordan had his reasons for both, the bigger jackets and extra wide-legged pants. Michael was self-conscious about the short jackets. On the other hand, he loved the wide pants as they covered his big shoes, in regard to his skinny legs.
Michael Jordan Is A Fashion Icon
Michael Jordan’s biggest skill was playing elite-level basketball on the court. But off the court, Jordan loved to showcase his fashion style.
There are many examples of it, such as flaunting an amazing all-black outfit at a Scottie Pippen party in 1996. Jordan’s outfit at the 1992 NBA All-Star game also caught the eye of fans.
All things considered, Michael Jordan has shown his love for fashion numerous times throughout his life. Even today, Jordan wears some great outfits which tend to go viral among NBA fans.
