LeBron James explained why he joined he wanted to play for the Los Angeles Lakers, and that comes as a feel-good factor for fans ahead of the upcoming season.
Speaking to TV host Jim Hill in an earlier interview, the four-time NBA champion revealed what made him become a Laker and much of it had to do with the franchise’s decorated history.
“I came here for one reason and one reason only, and that’s to play winning basketball and take this team back to where it should be. I see all those banners. I see all those banners — all those championship banners — and I want to be a part of one of those.”
“And I also see all those banners with all the Laker greats: Magic, Kareem, Worthy, Elgin, Wilt, Kobe, Shaq — I want to be up there too. That’s my motivation, and I won’t stop until I put this franchise in a position to compete for a championship, hopefully, win a championship, and hopefully see my jersey hang in the rafters. That’s what it’s about.”

Since his arrival to LA, the 38-year-old has won one title with the franchise, while leading them to the playoffs twice in the next three seasons.
After going down to the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals in 2018, many believed that James would have one more run with the Cleveland Cavaliers, but he made his way to the Lakers and led them to their 17th title.
The numbers have been staggering despite his age. With the Lakers, he averages 27.4 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 8.0 assists — better numbers than his 11 seasons with the Cavaliers and four seasons with the Miami Heat. Only time will tell if he can lead them to their 18th championship in the 2023-24 season.
