  • Damian Lillard’s trade preferences have not changed
  • Miami is preparing a package for Lillard that could include multiple picks and swaps
  • Heat are still the favorites to land star point guard

With Damian Lillard up for grabs, the Miami Heat have been quietly putting together a trade package that might entice Blazers GM Joe Cronin. While it’s no secret that Portland has no desire for Tyler Herro, the Heat still have other things to offer and it’s possible they could look elsewhere to find the parts they need to get a deal done.

Regardless, Miami is determined to strike an agreement eventually and Shams Charania recently revealed that they are preparing to make another offer.

“I’m told the Heat have been preparing a trade package around 3-4 first-round draft picks, potential draft swaps, as well as second-round picks, a young player potentially. We see right there what the framework of a deal could look like.”

On Friday, the NBA sent out a memo warning players and their agents against publicly demanding a trade to one specific team, but it has done nothing to change Lillard’s mind. He’s dead-set on going to Miami, but with several years still left on his deal, the Blazers have no deadline to get rid of him.

NBA Was ‘Wildly Upset’ With Comments From Lillard’s Agent

Last week, Lillard and his agent sparked outrage after suggesting he’d refuse to report to camp for any other team besides the Heat, which severely damaged Portland’s leverage in trade talks.

Apparently, the NBA could even potentially veto a Lillard trade to Miami if it gets any worse.

“One source said league was ‘wildly upset’ about comments made by Lillard’s agent to media about it being ‘futile’ for teams other than Heat to try to make a trade with Blazers.”

As of the time of writing, it’s widely believed that Joe Cronin does not value any package Miami has to offer, but it might be the best one on the table right now. So unless another team steps in and joins the sweepstakes, this battle is already won for the Heat.
