The Los Angeles Lakers made a run to the Western Conference Finals this year, and there is no doubt that they are a good team going into next season. They retained a number of key role players this summer, and many expect them to be a better team after this off-season.

A recent report from NBA insider Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report revealed that the Los Angeles Lakers believe they can be “eight wins better” than last season. Since they won 43 games last year, that suggests the Lakers think they can be a fifty-win team. Pincus also noted that others around the league are also high on the Lakers.

“The Lakers believe they can be eight wins better than last year, but they’re not alone in optimism. None of those polled gave an unfavorable prognosis—albeit the one concerned about size and another who expects the team to “start the playoffs on the road”—and that’s from a varied cross-section of sources (in other words, non-Laker homers).”

There is no doubt that the Los Angeles Lakers have the talent and versatility to get far next season. The key is the team developing chemistry and gelling, and we’ll see if the Lakers can take down powerhouses such as the Denver Nuggets and the Phoenix Suns.

The Los Angeles Lakers Could Still Make More Additions

Even though the Los Angeles Lakers have already made a lot of good moves, it seems as though they may end up making more additions to their roster. In fact, a report revealed that they are really interested in adding Christian Wood, and his joining the team could increase their talent level even further.

“The Lakers would love to add Christian Wood… by far the most talented big man available. From the Lakers’ perspective… because they have Anthony Davis… you put Christian Wood next to him… The Lakers are restricted to minimums in what they can offer… Are the Lakers interested in Christian Wood? No question.”

Christian Wood is a player that has size and 3PT shooting, and there’s no doubt that he is talented. The key for him is being able to buy into the right role. If he can do that then Wood can be a productive player. This past season, Christian Wood averaged 16.6 PPG, 7.3 RPG, and 1.8 APG for the Dallas Mavericks.
