NBA players electrify audiences with their incredible skill and play on a nightly basis. As they get invested in these players, fans choose to attach themselves to these players, and affectionately give these players nicknames. Sometimes, players give each other and themselves nicknames too.

Fans are familiar with the English nicknames for some of the biggest NBA players. But one fan on YouTube shared what nicknames Chinese fans have given some of the biggest NBA players. He talked about the nicknames given to LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Michael Jordan, and many others. Here are some of these nicknames.

Giannis Antetokounmpo – The Alphabet Man

Anthony Davis – The Bushy Browed Man

Paul George – Pickled Peppers

Russell Westbrook – Ninja Turtle

Kobe Bryant – My Dear Kobe/The Man Who Strikes Iron

Derrick Rose – Mei Gui (Rose)

Dwight Howard – Magical Beast

Stephen Curry – Cute God

Michael Jordan – Leader of a gang (in Mandarin)

Charles Barkley – Flying Pig

Shaquille O’Neal – Big Shark

Some of the nicknames fans in China came up with for these players are incredibly creative, so much so that even Shaquille O’Neal, the king of nicknames, would be proud.


China Has Some Of The Biggest NBA Fans In The World

Basketball is perhaps the most popular sport in China. Fans in China love basketball, especially the NBA. While the Chinese Basketball Association is a popular league that has a lot of fans within the country, Chinese fans know that the NBA has some of the best players in the world.

The NBA has played games in China in the past, and seen record attendances there, as fans come in droves to see the best players in the world playing in front of them. The Chinese fans were especially invested in the NBA when the legendary Yao Ming was playing in the league.

As the NBA is witnessing a new generation of players taking over the league, perhaps fans in China will come up with some new and hilarious nicknames for the superstars of tomorrow.
