Star guard James Harden didn’t come to an agreement on a new deal with the Philadelphia 76ers in free agency, and he was likely hoping for a new long-term deal with the franchise. Following this development, we saw James Harden accept his $35.6 million player option and ask for a trade.

Recently, former star Tim Hardaway claimed that James Harden’s goal is to get paid as much as possible, rather than winning championships. Hardaway also noted that he likely won’t get traded until the Philadelphia 76ers find a suitable deal.

“James Harden wants to do what James Harden wants to do. He’s looking out for James Harden. He’s not looking out for a team. He wants to get paid as much money as he can. He really doesn’t care about championships,” Hardaway said.

“I think he’s declining right now. I think his game is declining, and I think other teams are like, ‘Well, we don’t need him.’ I think he put himself in a corner, and it’s his fault. Now he’s going to have to live with it. He’s going to have to play for the 76ers until they get a deal done that’s right for them. Until then, I think it’s going to be the same way as Ben Simmons and that whole situation.”

A player caring about the financial aspect of the game isn’t necessarily a bad thing, as NBA players secure generational wealth with just one contract. It is also unfair to say that James Harden doesn’t care about winning championships, as we saw him adjust his game during his time with the Brooklyn Nets and the Philadelphia 76ers to accommodate his star teammates. Still, these sorts of statements about him will persist until he wins a championship.

James Harden averaged 21.0 PPG, 6.1 RPG, and 10.7 APG for the Philadelphia 76ers last season, and he is clearly still an All-Star-level performer. Hopefully, he has a good season next year, wherever that may be.

James Harden Is Ready For Things To Get Uncomfortable

Amidst all the trade rumors swirling around him, James Harden recently posted an Instagram story that stated that it is “time to get uncomfortable”. There has been no traction on a trade for the star, and we’ll see what Harden does to try and force the 76ers’ hand.

Hopefully, we do see James Harden get traded to his preferred destination, which is the Clippers. However, that happening is far from certain, and we’ll see what happens in the future.
