The Boston Celtics lost in the Eastern Conference Finals this season, and this was a disappointment for the team, who had championship expectations. As such, there have already been some shakeups with the roster, as the team decided to trade guard Marcus Smart in a trade that landed them Kristaps Porzingis.

Originally, the team was supposed to land Kristaps Porzingis by trading away guard Malcolm Brogdon. However, those talks ultimately fell apart, and since then, the Boston Celtics have been rebuffing all offers for the point guard.

“They said he’s a valued member of their team, and that’s where it ended,” a league source told Steve Bulpett of Heavy Sports. “I don’t know if that changes down the line, but we didn’t get anywhere. And I’m pretty sure we aren’t the only team that got that response.”

Another source told Bulpett that the team didn’t really want to move Malcolm Brogdon for Kristaps Porzingis, but felt forced to make the move to build a more balanced roster.

“They didn’t want to move him in the first place,” said one source involved in the pre-draft maneuverings. “They really like Malcolm. But they had to balance out their roster. They didn’t want to go into another season having to rely so heavily on (Robert) Williams and (Al) Horford. They had a bit of a logjam in the backcourt, and they really needed some insurance up front.”

There is no doubt that Malcolm Brogdon is a valuable piece for the Boston Celtics, as he is a quality point guard that can both start and come off the bench. He won the Sixth Man of the Year award in 2023, due to his impact on the Celtics’ backup unit.

This past regular season, Malcolm Brogdon averaged 14.9 PPG, 4.2 RPG, and 3.7 APG for the Boston Celtics while shooting a blistering 44.4% from 3PT range. Hopefully, he continues to do well next year, while helping the Celtics win a championship.

Malcolm Brogdon Had A Health Issue That Prevented The Celtics From Completing Any Trades With Him

The main reason that the Boston Celtics were unable to complete a deal featuring Malcolm Brogdon is due to his having a health issue that scared off other teams from making deals.

With that being said, perhaps the team not being able to trade him is a blessing in disguise. Brogdon is a quality guard, and he could be a key piece that helps the team win a championship.
