Father Of 46th Overall Pick Seth Lundy Goes Viral For Faking An Arm Injury To Watch His Son Get Drafted To The NBA

Getting picked in the NBA draft is a dream for millions of people across the world, but only about 60 players are given that honor each year. And it’s not just the players themselves waiting for a moment like that, but also their parents.

Seth Lundy was drafted in the second round of the 2023 NBA Draft by the Atlanta Hawks using the 46th overall pick. And his father, Gerald Lundy, has gone viral after the video of him getting drafted shows that he faked an arm injury to be there for this massive moment in his son’s life.

The video is from the draft night, where Lundy’s family and friends were present to watch his name get called. His father, sitting to his right, had his arm in a sling with an apparent injury. But after the announcement was made, he was seen enthusiastically clapping and cheering for his son, making it obvious that the injury was faked.

Lundy faked the injury to get off of work, with his words being reported by Sports Manor. He said, “I told my boss that I hurt my arm and couldn’t come in. I knew I had to be there for my son.”

Seth Lundy has signed a two-way contract with the Hawks, meaning he will split his time between the team and their G-League affiliate, the College Park Skyhawks. The two-way contract will see him make half the rookie minimum salary, which is $426,500. That’s a lot of money, and worth missing work to see.

Second-Round Picks Don’t Always Work Out In The NBA, But Seth Lundy Has Some Big Role Models

There will be some people that point out that it’s not easy to make it in the NBA, especially for second-round picks. A lot of them never pan out, instead falling out of the league in just a couple of years. But Nikola Jokic, who just won Finals MVP, was drafted 42nd overall. Lundy can also follow the example of players like Draymond Green, Manu Ginobili, and Isaiah Thomas in that regard.

In terms of the 46th pick, some solid NBA role players have made a career after being chosen at that spot. De’Anthony Melton, Jordan Clarkson, Norman Powell, and Danny Green are some great recent examples of this. It is now up to the young man to make sure that his dad’s sacrifice becomes an iconic moment in NBA history.
