Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan are perhaps the two most important players in NBA history. Along with Larry Bird, Magic Johnson is credited with saving the NBA during the 80s. And Michael Jordan was the man to take it to the next level.

Both players are widely considered to be Top 5 all-time in NBA history. And they have always had a competitive relationship. Even to this day, when Magic is 63 years old, and MJ is 60, they talk about taking on each other on the court. And Lakers fans on Reddit recently discussed if the current Magic could beat the GOAT.

“Tbh, I could see it. Magic is f**kin thick now lol in one-on-one he could just go to the post and baby hook MJ to death.”

“All Magic needs to do is play smart and back MJ down until he’s 2 feet away from the basket and shoot over Jordan.”

“Magic tore up MJ in the finals and they had to switch Pippen onto Magic.”

“NBA needs to get a retired legends game at All-Star Weekend.”

“Magic is just gonna sit in the post and take hook shots. Both don’t have lift so Magic’s shot is unstoppable.”

“Yes, this is the same argument as why LeBron would dominate MJ if they were the same age.”

“MJ will have an unstoppable fadeaway till his last day on earth.”

“We’re talking about the greatest scorer of all time vs a guy not known for his defense.”

“Doubt it. MJ probably still runs games too and practices and is younger.”

“No. Magic was a team player. His offensive bag wasn’t nearly as deep as MJ.”

“Magic could beat MJ unless there was a bunch of money on the line.”

“Nah, man. MJ would still get Magic 1-on-1.”

This is an interesting debate, and despite Lakers fans having a bias, plenty have accepted that Michael Jordan might still beat Magic Johnson. There’s no way to tell unless the two take on one another. And what’s wild about it is, based on their banter, it might even be something that happens.

Michael Jordan Challenged Magic Johnson To A 1-On-1 Game During The NBA’s 75th Anniversary Team Event

Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson used to go at each other during their playing careers, and that has not changed in retirement. Both were naturally selected to the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Team and when they met up, Jordan challenged Magic to a 1-on-1 game on the spot.

Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson faced off 18 times in the NBA, with Magic and his Lakers winning seven times while Michael and his Bulls won 11 times. MJ averaged 30 points per game against Johnson in his career and even beat his team in the NBA Finals in 1991. Still, if they played today, it’s hard to say which one might come out on top.
