Gilbert Arenas had a breakout sophomore year with the Golden State Warriors during the 2002-03 NBA. He averaged 18.3 PPG, 4.7 RPG, and 6.3 APG. Arenas impressed the Washington Wizards as he signed as a free agent with the team in 2003.
But at the time, the Wizards still placed their trust in the No.. 1 overall pick in the 2001 NBA Draft, Kwame Brown. Arenas’ signing may have rubbed Brown the wrong way. However, team veteran Jerry Stackhouse destroyed Kwame Brown for being selfish in the locker room.
“It was leading up to Toronto, and players were just complaining that I wasn’t passing the ball,” Arenas said. “I’m thinking like, ‘Oh s**t, I’m new.’ I only take like three shots that game. Three shots at 7 points and it was at the end of the game. We had a team meeting the next day. We got the players, one player talking about he need the ball. Treat me like I’m Jermaine O’Neal and all this stuff.
“At this time, I don’t know who he is. So, I’m like, ‘S**t, you know Jermaine O’Neal. Throw it down to the big fella. I’m all on board.’ Jerry Stackhouse came in there, ‘What the f**k we doing in here man? I told you dumba*s, if you average 7 points last year, you’re gonna average 9 this year. You’re not jumping from 5 points to 20 points. You’re not that type of player. This goddamn meeting is over with.'”
Arenas took advantage of the situation and then exploded to a phenomenal stretch.
“In the locker room, what you’re looking for? Weakness, right?” Arenas added. “That man did this, ‘This is the s**t I’m talking about. They ain’t never gonna listen to me.’ Now you can hear the players, ‘This man just said Jermaine O’Neal. He more like Jermaine Oatmeal. He better Jermaine Get Real.'”

Following that 7-point performance vs. the Raptors, Arenas went berserk over the next 12 games. He averaged 28.9 PPG, 5.6 RPG, and 7.3 APG.
For the season, Arenas finished with 19.6 PPG, 4.6 RPG, and 5.0 APG. On the other hand, Kwame Brown had just 10.9 PPG, 7.4 RPG, and 1.5 APG.
Gilbert Arenas Hates Kwame Brown
Gilbert Arenas and Kwame Brown were teammates for just two seasons, but it was more than enough time for them to develop hatred toward each other.
So much so that Arenas called Brown a ‘drunk’ in a furious rant. Arenas claimed where Brown went, he was a locker room cancer and held back his team.
To be honest, for a No. 1 overall pick, Brown had a lackluster career in the NBA. He averaged 6.6 PPG, 5.5 RPG, and 0.9 APG in 607 career games spread over 12 years.
