Having a great 2023 offseason was pivotal for the Miami Heat if they are to return to the NBA Finals in 2024. Things did not get off to a good start, however, with Gabe Vincent heading to the Los Angeles Lakers and Max Strus potentially on his way to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

With their starting backcourt on the way out, the Heat have opted to bring back a familiar face in Josh Richardson on a two-year deal.

“Free agent Josh Richardson has agreed on a two-year deal with the Miami Heat, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Richardson returns to the franchise that drafted him in 2015.”

Richardson returns to the Heat on a veteran’s minimum with a player option for the second year. In 65 games last season with the San Antonio Spurs and the New Orleans Pelicans, he averaged 10.1 PPG, 2.7 RPG. 2.7 APG, 1.1 SPG, and 0.3 BPG.

Richardson had spent four seasons with the Heat before he was included in the package that brought Jimmy Butler to Miami in 2019. He had the best seasons of his career with the Heat, with averages of 16.6 PPG, 3.6 RPG, 4.1 APG, 1.1 SPG, and 0.5 BPG in 2018-19, and they will be hoping he can help ease the blow of Strus’ departure.

His passion for the sport was ignited after witnessing the high-octane offense of the Steve Nash-led Phoenix Suns. Among the Suns, Shawn Marion stood out to Gautam as an all-time underrated NBA player. Marion’s versatility as a defender and his rebounding prowess, despite being just 6’7”, impressed Gautam immensely. He admired Marion’s finishing ability at the rim and his shooting, despite an unconventional jump shot, believing that Marion’s skill set would have been even more appreciated in today’s NBA.This transformative experience not only deepened his love for basketball but also shaped his approach to sports writing, enabling him to connect with readers through vivid storytelling and insightful analysis.
