The Golden State Warriors surprised everybody when they traded Jordan Poole to the Washington Wizards in exchange for Chris Paul. The Dubs were high on Poole up until last season when things went south between the young guard and Draymond Green, one of the idols of the team.

Now that this move has been completed, more details about the relationship between Poole and the Warriors have emerged. According to Tim Kawakami of The Athletic, Poole was considered ‘extraneous’ and ‘inefficient’ by his team.

“What’s clear to me after a few days of checking around is that this all began when the Warriors decided that Poole was an extraneous and inefficient member of their roster,” Kawakami wrote.

According to the reporter, the Warriors didn’t want to keep Poole after his display differed a lot from the type of contract they gave to him last season. Moreover, Poole wanted to get a bigger role on the team, which was unlikely since Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson are still on the team.

This prompted the team to part with Poole despite Mike Dunleavy Jr. vowing to keep Poole on the roster three days before he completed this trade.

“The Warriors weren’t going to give Poole away, but they were ready to move on if the right deal came along.”

Now, Chris Paul is on the team and ready to help them return to the NBA Finals and win a championship. Having CP3 on the team can be a huge move for the Dubs, but the player must show he still got it and confirm it when the team needs him, whatever his role is.

A seasoned veteran, Paul can bring a lot to this team, but to win, he’ll need to be carried by his new teammates.

Steve Kerr Admits Warriors Wanted A ‘Shift’ Before Trading Jordan Poole To Wizards

Steve Kerr revealed why the Warriors decided of letting Poole go. The head coach admitted that the team needed a ‘shift’ and Poole was selected to leave the team. Some think this is a strategy from the Warriors to convince Draymond Green to re-sign with them, but that situation appears to be more complex now.

As for Poole, he’s already embracing his new role in Washington, acting like a leader for the newcomers and trying to move on from the bad moments he lived with the Warriors.
