Bridges has clearly become a fan favorite in Brooklyn. And going into the new season, fans will have high hopes for him. Nets fans have already given Mikal a nickname – ‘Brooklyn Bridges’, a play on the Brooklyn Bridge and Mikal’s last name. If Mikal continues to play the way he did during his brief first run with the Nets, there could be big things in store for his future.

Mikal Bridges Could Be An All-Star Next Season

While Bridges is not a player currently on the level of previous Nets stars like Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, there is still a lot of cause for excitement around him. The Nets even refused to trade Bridges for Anfernee Simons and the third overall pick in the draft.

Firstly, Bridges, unlike Kyrie and KD, has shown in the recent past that he can play regularly, playing a total of 83 games last season.

Secondly, Bridges has shown that as a first option, he can be a solid player. Last season, after being traded to Brooklyn, Bridges averaged 26.1 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 27 games played for the Nets. His high scoring combined with his excellent defense makes him one of the top two-way players in the league.

And finally, under the new CBA rules, players will have to play at least 65 games to be considered for end-of-season awards. Considering Bridges’ excellent record over the last few seasons, he could be a contender for DPOY like he was last year or even MIP. The future is bright for Mikal Bridges in Brooklyn.
