Brandon Miller is widely expected to be a lock for the No. 2 overall pick, with the Charlotte Hornets reportedly edging towards the 6’9″ forward over Scoot Henderson.

Miller finally gave details on his first encounter with Michael Jordan during his tryout in Charlotte. Naturally, Jordan trash-talked the 19-year-old but didn’t expect the young forward to talk trash right back at him.

“Working out in front of Michael Jordan, a lot of people told me I’d be under pressure, but MJ was never the guy I grew up watching, I grew up watching Paul George. Michael Jordan was just a regular guy in the gym watching me work out. He definitely sounds like how he does on TV, he was trash-talking… He told me I was just a shooter. I know my talents and abilities, can’t let Jordan get into your head. I was kinda talking trash back to me. I witnessed him airball a free throw too, I’ll have that against him. It’s just him being old. Lace ’em up.”

Brandon Miller is a phenomenal talent and has the skill set that all modern forwards need. He can handle the ball, shoot, drop dimes, and run up and down the court. There will be concerns about how his physicality translates into the league as a rookie, but his potential with him as a talent is sky-high.

Is Brandon Miller The Right Pick?

For someone who didn’t think twice before calling Michael Jordan old, Miller does seem to have a very strong and competitive personality. That in itself would fit with what MJ values, as he is still the final decision maker with regards to who the Hornets will draft this season, despite him selling his stake in the franchise.

Scoot Henderson and LaMelo Ball would have been a must-watch backcourt that the league would struggle to figure out. The fit with LaMelo and Miller, on the other hand, seems to be far more natural and addresses what Charlotte needs to build a contender over the long term.
