After spending three seasons with the Phoenix Suns, Chris Paul was traded to the Washington Wizards in exchange for three-time NBA All-Star Bradley Beal.
Paul is expected to complete a buyout with the Wizards in hopes of signing with a championship contender. According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, CP3 is leaning towards a move to the Los Angeles Lakers or Los Angeles Clippers in order to stay close to his family.
“I’m told Chris Paul recently had breakfast with Suns coach Frank Vogel, who — during that conversation — expressed a desire to keep him,” Scotto said. “He also spoke with Suns executive James Jones the night before he was traded. Paul preferred not to be traded to a team that far away from his family in Los Angeles.”
Scotto added: “It’s one of the reasons Paul has been linked to both the Clippers and Lakers in a potential expansion of the trade, along with wanting an opportunity to play for a contender.”

Chris Paul’s family currently resides in Los Angeles. If he can complete a move to the Lakers or Clippers, he can stay close to his loved ones. On top of that, it’d maximize his chances of winning an NBA Championship before retiring from the league. After all, he’s already 38 years old.
Will Chris Paul Join The Lakers Or Clippers?
Both L.A. teams can provide CP3 with a chance to win a ring. As of now, the veteran point guard has been linked to both teams.
At the time of writing this piece, the Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly interested in offering Paul a veteran minimum contract to join the team. He can become a valuable addition to the team during the regular season and take things to the next level come playoff time.
The Clippers, on the other hand, plan to pair CP3 with Russell Westbrook. Of course, the Clippers still need to re-sign Westbrook first. Paul spent six seasons with the Clippers earlier in his career.
The 38-year-old averaged 13.9 PPG, 4.3 RPG, and 8.9 APG during the 2022-23 NBA season with the Phoenix Suns.
