The Lakers Likely To Sign Chris Paul Only For A Veteran’s Minimum Deal

It makes sense that the Lakers are looking at offering the 38-year-old Chris Paul a vet's minimum contract.

Latest reports suggest that the Los Angeles Lakers would only sign Chris Paul for a veteran’s minimum contract.

According to LA Times’ Andrew Greif, Broderick Turner, and Dan Woike: “The Lakers for sure would have interest in acquiring Chris Paul, but only for the veteran minimum.”

Paul was dealt to the Washington Wizards by the Phoenix Suns in a blockbuster trade for Bradley Beal, and his deal is only partially guaranteed for the upcoming season. And with the veteran guard touching 38, it does make sense for LA to try and acquire him for a minimum deal.

Over the last couple of seasons, the floor general’s production has seen a decline, primarily due to his injuries. The 2022-23 season saw him average 13.9 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 8.9 assists. That said, he is still targeted by multiple teams, with the LA Clippers being one of the potential suitors.

The guard will surely be a massive boost for the Lakers, who suffered from a playmaking identity in the playoffs this season. With D’Angelo Russell icing up in the postseason, averaging just 6.3 points and 3.5 assists per game. They sorely missed a backup, and with Paul, they have a chance of rectifying the issue.

Reggie Miller Reveals How Chris Paul Can Help The Los Angeles Lakers

Earlier, former Indiana Pacers superstar Reggie Miller explained how the Lakers can reap the benefits of having an experienced vet in Chris Paul.

Speaking on The Dan Patrick Show, “You just want someone to stabilize and not beat you, make a timely wide-open shot, don’t turn the ball over, and be steady,” Miller said.

“He wouldn’t be one of those guys that are counted on to win games. He’ll be counted on not to lose games for you, I think. And unless at the end of the day, when healthy, he is an unbelievable floor general. He understands how to run a team. He is not going to hurt you.”

Right now, there is no telling where Paul will land, but safe to say, the Lakers are indeed trending in the right direction with their interest in CP3 and the kind of contract they have in the offing.
